I'm trying to use an orthographic image textured onto a plain in the viewport to aid my modeling (this is actually my first modeling attempt ever), but when I apply the texture it doesn't map in the viewport, but just changes color. It only shows the texture when rendering. How can I use the image to aid in my modeling by aligning it to the camera?

you have to set your viewport to show textures

Go to the material editor. Choose what material you want to show up, and somewhere near the middle of the screen there will be a "Show texture in viewport" button (i think it has a box with checkers on it) It's just below the sphere sample views.

P.S. This is what the alphabet would look like if Q and R were eliminated.

I understand that much, but how?

I don't have 3dsmax so I'm just talking from my experience with other 3d programs . I guess TogaMario did give a good answer on you question.

Is it solved now?
