Here's a list:

Ultimate Unwrap 3d for UV unwrapping and file converson

Milkshape 3D and gameSpace light for modeling

Adobe Photoshop CS9 and Jasq (or is it corel?) Paint Shop 9 for
textures

Now don't think it'll be easy, but this is the best and most cost effective way to get started. Milkshape is GREAT for beginners, and gameSpace Light is great for doing sceenes.

Paint Shop Pro is in it's tenth (X) version now. It is now owned by Corel.

I definitely think Ultimate Unwrap is the easiest way to go for texture mapping.

I bought Gamespace (full version) at the same time as FPSC but only bought Ultimate Unwrap today after reading this thread. Although I think Gamespace would offer better texture mapping flexibility once you got into it, it is quite long-winded and Ultimate Unwrap is just so much quicker and easier for extracting UV maps. It also seems to be able to import FPSC character .x files complete with animation, which is something I haven't been able to do with Gamespace.

Best Regards

Jason
