I picked up DBPro again after a long time of no use and im trying to make a small game called Azara, which is similar to the game Avara by AmbrosiaSW. Basically its a shooter where you control a mech, and you run around in various levels shooting stuff and trying to get to certain spots. It doesn't sound like much but the original avara was tons of fun( i can't play it on os X so i am trying to re make it) I changed some of the stuff for example now the bullets bounce off walls for a certain amount of time before exploding. Although right now they just float around forever :/ Im not gonna release a demo yet till I can get at least a wandering AI for the drone which currently just sits there and gets shot. It doesn't die either. But i do have some screens.
Hopefully ill have a demo sometime during the weekend.

EDIT:
oh ya about the horrible texture on the level I dont' know how to do lightmapping so ill have to figure that out :p

The spheres are bullets. They float around for a bit before exploding so ideally battles will create temporary minefields
Maybe i will leave the level untextured as that actually looks better for now.

looks pretty cool, and very weird, but I'm disapointed in one thing, the models, I've seen much better out of you, but I guess you're following the philosophy of code first graphics later

Your signature has been erased by a mod because it's larger than 600x120...

Ya im waiting on the graphics and also im trying to imitate avaras poor graphics since its a really old game. Maybe i wil have an option for different graphics tho

I was working on overhauling some of the graphics and changed the guns!
Also i now have a very basic wandering AI for the drone. Just for fun im using the default Newton fps level as my level is kinda an eyesore till i get a new texture. I think I will release a demo tomorrow. Keep in mind that you can't really do anything besides wander around the small level and shoot stuff that doesn't even blow up yet.

Ok i have some new screens of retextured everything! Plus everything that is supposed to blows up with new homemade sounds! I owe the textures to google Since this obviuosly isnt' a commercial game i figure it doesn't matter if i use those. And a DEMO! It is very small but it gives you an idea of what the game will be like.



Please tell me what you think so far and also post the Fps you get.

WASD = move (A and D rotate the mech the little indicator at the bottom shows which way ur pointing)
space = jump
click = shoot

Its not too early for a WIP! It is literally a work in progress, so by all means show it off! If you post regular updates, even if they are small updates on textures, models, code etc, people wont mind, and if they do, they can really stick it, because you have succesfully posted a WIP.

It looks good, and I like how you didnt just stop at the first screenie, you actually moved ahead and made it better. Also, you posted an alpha, which is possibly the nicest thing you could have done!

I hope you develop this further!

You using deled for the level? Obviously there are physics involved too. How do you habdle collision?

Wow you made my day by posting lol! Mucho gracias.
Anyways ive made a bunch of progress coding wise, i wasn't posting anything since it seemed no one was interested. As soon as I texture the newest level i will post another demo. Im actually using Blender for all the modelling and UVMapping. I was considering using DeleD but i can't find it anywhere, the site seems to be down. For physics im using Newton, and it was definately worth learning the new commands, its amazing! The AI is still somewhat poor, im not sure how to get the drone to reliably move towards u when it sees u.
arrrrgh my thumb is hurt and im having a terrible time typing. This took me about 10 minutes to type so, no coding till tomorrow.

Wow, this game is actually looking really good. (Haven't tried the demo yet, but it looks good).
As for the many thanks in Spanish, it would actually be muchas gracias. I learned that from my spanish game post in the program annnouncements Just thought You would like that spanish info.

for texture make hsure you check limefly.net for some free stuff. most textures are for opersonal and free games.

2 + 2 = 5 (for extreamly large values of 2)

wow.... HAHAHA!! I just played the demo! Man you should make this game surround sound, the sound effects make the game... That was really fun.... BOOM!!! i had about 200 bombs going off simultaneously. I think youve really hit a gold nugget here booga. Ill be looking freward to the updates .

Crits: Texture res a little low, would b alot more fun with clearer textures. Of course this is the last thing you should be worrying about because its just icing on the cake.

Controls... i think W brouht me back and D was strafe right? i dunno about you guys but this was kind of wierd...

Overall great work, i loved it

wow thanks man! should I make the sounds 3d? right now they aren't so it seems a little weird but then it might not be as boomingly loud. You'll never guess what the bullet explosion sound is..........my shoe hitting my desk! Then I edited it a TON and came out w/ that lol. For the movement, do you see the little black V at the bottom of the screen(in the newest version im working on it will be green)? The open end points in the direction your Mech's legs are pointing, thus the direction you will move. Its like a tank in most other games. You can move in one direction while your torso and guns are facing another direction. Im so bad at UV Mapping lol, maybe i will leave the 3rd level out of the next demo just so yall can hear teh music!

Itsa demo time! This has my first level, and the default newton level just cuz I like it. I'll probly change it later on but its the only level big enough to have more enemies :/. Anyways, there is now music, and options menu for controlling the music, a new bullet sound so it isn't too repetitive, and splash damage from explosions! I don't remember if you could win or die in the old version but now you can. Eventually im going to make ti so that you dont' win till you get to a certain spot and all the enemies are dead..but for now its just a cheesy winning screen after you kill em all. Here is a screenie if you dont' want a demo.


...my computer sounds like there is a squirrel stuck in it...its kinda scary. *backs away*
*WHAM!* there much better.

EDIT: doi! I guess when I converted the splash damage into a function it didn't work anymore so the demo doesn't have splash damage. Oh well, its not neccessary really.

UPDATE!
Was the forum down for anyone else? I couldnt' log on yesterday or this morning.

Anyways, I've added two levels, and decided on a sort of theme for the texturing...which is solid colors :p . I think it looks better on these levels especially for the style of game im going for. Also...Ive added recoil and idle animations for the guns!



Also Im working on a new enemy, which is a spider like robot.



Has anyone tried the new demo?

Well i must say your graphics style is interesting (solid colors)

looks good, i would keep working on the gameplay / engine not worrying too much about textures (3D models do need to be worried about), then later if you change your mind you can always put in different textures...
