I would like a tutorial for reflections, like in water for example, comparing the pros and cons of some alternative methods.

Hey Guys,

I am new to this scene, but am looking forward to getting my hands dirty so to speak.

I think a tutorial on how to place a video intro (e.g. .AVI or MPEG) at the beginning of the video game would be useful to know. And also how to place video clips inbetween video game levels.

Also, some tutorials on making multiplayer games, such as how you create an interface that a user can use to get connected with his pallies, or how to make a chat box.

Iam fairly new so if this has been answered before just point me to the info.
I just got my DBPro , happy guy right, but I have a real problem with the manual it's to small print for me. I can not find any pdf file that I can print out to my likings.
So in everbody asking for tutorials how about a user manual for the sightly challenged. And maybe it's there I just can't see it! rofl
Thanks in advance.

It's not the size of your code but how efficiently you use it!

quote pugmartin :
I think most people would agree with me that even the most mediocre game is enhanced with the inclusion of physics/gravity based collision.
Specifically: * Simple inertia on objects
* Simple momentum
* The effect of gravity on an object

I do agree id like some of that kinda stuff.

Something just like the rainbow shading tutorial, but for Cartoon shading -- how to prepare the files so you actually see the outline, etc.

I'd suggest a tutorial on texturing an imported 3D object for beginners. (Me being a beginner to DB (but not to BASIC) I don't know how to do it)

Thanks

Oh yeah, another suggestion. A lot of websites that I've noticed do tutorials in video format - you should do the same. I think you'd notice that your customers would get a lot more out of them...at least I would...

First, i think that the requests for AI are not
related to DBpro. Ofcourse, it will be nice to get some code, but i belive that we should use rich kindness for
specific DBpro features.

My suggestions are:
-------------------

1. Import an animated model, "map" and control his limbs and animation
2. Object texturing methods and shaders
3. The .x model, access and manipulate its data
4. Shadows
5. Reflections

6. Performance tips. I belive that each tutorial may have some words on that specific subject, that explain why that method/command is better than other.

7. Don't flame me, but for me, the best tutorial is the get a known bug list, and temporary solutions for them.

Hi Rich
A tutorial on car physics like having the wheels follow the
ground and suspension action would be great.

Hey DBL, you guys should seriously consider a tutorial for manipulating imported 3D objects, such as texturing them and using limbs. I think it'd be very helpful.

Rich,

Trawling back through previous messages a [fairly boring but v useful] tutorial on use of Global and Local and #Include for Arrays and Types in and out of Functions would be well appreciated...

Also, a tutorial on loading and saving .dbo objects and what the commands can and cannot do ie. which formats can be loaded in, what information is stored, animation etc. (after of course Patch 4 is released! :-s )

Finally, something on putting together a basic windows-style menu system, load file system and/or buttons....

I would quite like to see some tutorials that work.

Vertually every tutorial I have for DBPro has some bug in it somewhere. Even the simple ones. For example:

INPUT "Enter Word>";a$
DO
CLS
SET CURSOR RND(640), RND(480)
PRINT a$
LOOP

This causes an error on line one. But it's the exact code from the tutorial.

The FPS tutorial had some errors too. And not being a DB developer until yesterday, im not able to solve these problems myself. Hence the need for the tutorials. x-d

and practised in all db tuts heh so i guess thats the new way
of doing it i.e.

test# = Screen fps()

set cursor 0,0
print "FPS: ";test#

I would like to have included tutorials on 3d and 2d maths collison. EG using different types eg bounding box(3d/2d?), sliding(3d/2d), cubic(3d), sphere(3d), square (2d).

A problem I found was being able return the side of the square hit eg left, right, top and bottom.

I'd LOVE to read Tutorial 7 on the Basics of 3D space, BUT there is NO LINK to it from the tutorials page! Anyw chance of it being added?

Apart from that, an explaination of the types that are used in 3dmaths, but as you said, not the whole caboodle as a lot of it is, well, maths! and can be foudn out in plenty of other places. Just mabe more description of what each of the types are, how they can be used with other commands, both within and without the 3dmaths command set.
