Cyberbowl is a remake of Hyperbowl on Spectrum. I only feel the need announce this, (which has been in development since 21st February and on paper since Jan2003.) since I have seen someone else has been making a update of the same game!! Good luck guys!
The Alpha test will be availible for download in a few weeks hopefully...if I'm not to busy. Initially, I am hoping to enter the competition but if it's not ready by then it simply won't be entered.
Singleplayer Tornament and Multiplayer modes with customisable rules will be availible. I will also try do in-cockpit views (for amusement sake) and a radar... Features really need to be finalised though...Afraid I need to be a bit cagey about the whole thing!! It runs at 100FPS with SYNC set to 0 (which I might add as a mode for the comedy value!!) and averages around 60 FPS at proper speed. Only tested a few machines - if your G.card is old it won't manage much more than 10 FPS...which is what I got on an ATI Xpert 2000. There are 5 hardware lights for a start. Geforce 400MX ran it perfectly - so anything better should run at the optimum speed...

Actually I think I might change the name of the game - cyberball? cyberbowl? psyberball? Hyperbowl? Lazerball?
Any ideas?
Won't dwell on it too long - the game itself needs the brainpower! Powerball? Powerbowl? Anyone remember Powerdrome? on Atari ST? That was class....

This looks very slick indeed. Although we are doing remakes of the same game I believe our approaches are very different to each other.

As for names, we have chosen to just call ours Hyperbowl Retro Remake - we almost went for the name Gravbowl and the name Deathbowl (which was the name of our original Amiga remake of this game that involved 3-a-side matches and player deaths).

I hope you finish it for the competition.

Looking cool! And sure I remember Powerdrome - doesn't look a thing like this though But it was a class game.

Cheers,

Rich

Cheers! I only remembered Powerdrome while going through the names and got all nostalgic...Maybe I'll try a version of that next... But anyway, have added a sprite based radar (which needs tweaking a little) and used the timer() command to create a 2 minute long countdown for the first half. Once I've tweaked the A.I. a little (stopped the computer scoring own-goals!!) and added sound I might release a beta file for download...Maybe I will also add the cockpit view and multiplayer split screens before then too...

Oh and it runs fine (60fps) on a Duron 800 with Geforce GTS graphics card. Will try it on a PII 400 with TNT2 next...

When I first started using DBPro I was quite frustrated that a lot of things were difficult to get working but now after managing to get a game this finished after a week I'm dead impressed....

Here's the latest pic. With timer counting down and map for easier orientation working properly.
