In DBC there are no particle or animated sprite commands, you have to write them yourself. The best way of doing 3D effects is to use textured plains, for animations you can just change the texture every loop. YOu can use the POINT OBJECT command to point the plain at the camera, ensuring the plain is always facing the camera. Otherwise, for beam effects and stuff, you can use two plains at right angles to each other. This means even if you go round the side of one of the plains, you can still see the other plain. It is surprisingly effective.

i agree.
or to do it even more dynamically, u can code a random animated fire, water, particle etc. effect onto a seperate bitmap, say *bitmap 5, then grab the image and paste it in the loop to animate it onto the objects or matrix tiles.

The best games have really good math, physics and dynamics. CHEERS!
