Wow, I put up that tree as an inside joke! I didn't expect it to actually evolve. That's a really well textured Claymore mine (you even put in the blasting cap wells), good job.

Thanks Keith

I have a tendency to go overboard on detailing . I'm also used to working on a slightly larger scale, polygon-wise, so low-poly modelling is a bit of a challenge. I think I'm still overdoing it slightly, but getting better with practice.

BTW, if you're curious, this is how I usually spend my free time...

That's real good stuff, thanks for sharing. I'm a member at Renderosity as well. Ernie the Ebot doesn't happen to be inspired by the "Iron Giant" does it (my daughter loves that movie)?

Do you still use Paint Shop Pro 7? I use version 9, but I am beginning to transition into Photoshop. I use Ultimate unwrap 3D. Any chance you could give me a few pointers on the gun texturing, specifically on how to get the 'worn' look on the barrel, etc.?

Good stuff.

I worked all day on the Claymore mine and got it working perfectly as a landmine! It explodes when you touch it, or when you damage it (I.E. shoot it/throw something at it)

JUst remmember to put the landmine.fpe file in the scriptbank, and all the other files go together wherever you want them.

IMPORTANT: unfortunatly, the script dosn't take care of EVERYTHING, you still need to place the mine into FPSC, then edit the properties (right click to get into the properties menu).
You need to change "Physics Force Damage" to "1000", and change "Physics weight" to "1000".

This will make the landmine VERY fun to use! Try making your own mine field, it's really fun!

P.S. Does anyone know the command for Physics Weight and Physics Force Damage? If I can figure that out, then I'll make it so the user dosn't have to do anything but place the Claymore model!

When FPSC develops enough, lets make a Redwall game!

Hi Keith

I haven't seen the 'Iron Giant' movie, but there's probably a subconscious resemblance in the design as I will have seen trailers, artwork etc. The only conscious bit of er... design 'inspiration' is in the boots. Have you seen the Wallace and Gromit short film, 'The Wrong Trousers'?

To get that worn metal look on gun textures (or anything else) I lasso the area, then use the Retouch tool set to Lighten RGB. I keep the opacity and hardness low and then just 'rub-down' the edges. The end result looks better on the model than it does on the texture map because we're attuned to seeing wear on the edges of objects. All you have to do is give the viewer's brain a hint, and it'll do most of the work for you. I've attached a screenie, hope it helps. Most of what I know about texturing has been picked up through trial and error over many years, so I'm not the best teacher (too many bad habits).

Cheers

- Graham

BTW, a good source for base textures is http://lemog.club.fr/index.html

Wow, I never thought about just lightening the area. Thanks!

-Keith

I've never seen a Wallace and Grommet movie yet, but I know of them.
