.max files are 3ds max internal files and only work in 3ds max or gmax. if you want to import them into darkbasic, load the .max file in 3ds max and export it as the right format.

Gmax does not open .max files. It uses its own .gmax files. Exports are via a plugin/kit for particular game formats. These kits are provided by the game developers and are included with the game or as a download. ie. Quake3Arena, MSFlight Simulator, DungeonSeige.

3D Studio Max. .max...... not Gmax. You will need to have a copy of 3DS Max in order to open these files. You then use a plugin in 3DS Max to export them into .X (Direct X) Format.

Truly Magical!

I have searched the net for 3ds to x converter, found a forum (gamedev) that suggested searching Accutrans3D.

Hey!, at least that doesn't cost $500

".max" files are used by only 3D Studio Max, usualy called 3DSMax.
www.autodesk.com/3dsmax

".3ds" is another format, used by 3DSMax from back before Windows.

There are no .max to .x convertors without using 3dsmax.

as for .3ds to .x convertor, some really nice bloke has released a free convertor - check fpsc models and media forum, its stickied at the top.

Quote: "".3ds" is another format, used by 3DSMax from back before Windows"

back when it was called 3d studio - despite this 3ds is still being used, it's a very common format

Quote: "There are no .max to .x convertors without using 3dsmax"

before you think about deep exploration - it can convert max files into dx, and pratically any other file format but requires you to have a full registered copy of max iirc - it uses it in a slave type mode to access all the objects etc.
