Does anyone know how to change the .srf file into a texture file(bmp or tga or something)?

i've never heard of it, looking at what i googled, it looks more like a general data file.

can i hazard a guess that you've found this file in a game's disc or directory and now want to use (steal) it and use it yourself?

AS many programs use all kinds of extensions for their files, it would help if you mentioned the application or the source of the files. There are many filetypes out there, some have become standard and there are also apps which totally diregard the extensions, as its only meant to be used with that app. An example would be, recently found some .bvh files and as an animator Im like cool Biovision animation files. Instead one of the programmers tells me, "Oh thats a bounding volume somthing..."

Ok that was long winded. So by .srf, do you mean Terragen surface definition files or GRASP molecular structure file? hehe ok I googled that.

Either way you might want to check out this link, which lists a few programs and their surpported file formats.

A terragen surface map is not a bitmap texture. Its a parametric/procedural textures. Meaning the .srf only stores parameters. Find out more here.

Well, I havent used terragen in a loooong time, and even then it was a quicky to create heightmaps.

Since there are no textures in the file, only parameters like altitude, colors, etc. I can only think of two options.

1. Terragen exports the texture "maps". ie like the heightmap.

2. Posiotion camera to view the texture and render out.

Sorry thats about what I can think of. If you explain a bit more, maybe I can think of some other options. For example, "I want to a terrain texture to map on my terrains" or " There's still small part of the terrain I want to use and tile for my matrix"...
