Hiya.

I have all of the modelling and animation done for Lonewolf, but I'm thinking that it's a little thin on the weapons front.

This is what I have so far...

Uzi
Shotgun
SVD Sniper Rifle
RPG
Frag
Anti-personel Mine (terrorist style)

I could do with making a handgun (with unlimited ammo), and another machine gun. The uzi is cool, but it only holds 30 bullets and they're spent withing 2 or 3 enemies, I need something deadlier.

So can I have some suggestions for a hand gun and a machine gun - any references you could share would be greatly appreciated, as would any relevant input into said guns. The existing guns are all quite realistic (I mean the SVD has the actual SVD scope image ), so info on how many bullets per minute they can chuck out and the bullets speed would be cool. Lonewolf is kinda old-school with the weapons, so nice traditional bullet-hoses is what I'm thinking.

^^^Stationary placement turret. Remember Perfect Dark? The way that the laptop gun worked in its secondary mode, except instead of walls, allow it to be placed on the ground for more functionality. Also, let it have about...200 ammo, and allow you to carry ammo pax to it if need be. Also be able to pick it up again.

**Will have more suggestions tonight, just have to go to my 2nd hour class in a second.**

Ahh, that would be cool but I'm avoiding gun emplacements - it would take too much to add support for that, a big meaty machine gun like that would be cool, but one that could be used normally. It sounds daft but I'm trying to wind it up, like get everything done so I can concentrate on making levels. I just keep adding stuff to that same level - there's only so long that the best DBPro FPS ever stays the best .

Thanks for your input - I might look into gun emplacements if I find the time.

[EDIT] In fact I'll look into gun emplacements!, too good an idea to pass up. I'll probably look for an older variant of that gun though, like maybe something from Vietnam.

Ah heck - I was going to go through the various game guns I know, but I'll just link to the games website - Cold Winter. The names may sound familiar but different to 'real world' weapons. (Because permission to use real world weapons is a dangerous land).

Of those, my personal favourites were the PSU 9mm handgun (for accuracy enough for headshots, despite the slow reload) and the AKS47 for the sheer tradition of it (with M4A1 coming a close second).

Watch though, the AKS47 notoriously pulls up and to the side - great for short 3 round bursts and the ammo size is so massive it'll cause gruesome damage with just a few hits.

has references or photos of just about every weapon you can imagine. Just look at the links on the left and choose US weapon systems or Foreign systems and on the right there will be more links to what you might need. What ever strikes you fancy.I believe the land warfare link has the guns. Hope that helps.

finding better ref image for stationary turret. But one cool thing would be if you did the same thing as perfect dark, and many other games I imagine, but perfect dark is on my mind lately...and make guns have primary and secondary functions.

[edit] aha! does this tickly your fancy?

I'd say start on a pistol, but make it a worthwhile weapon. I love pistols in games, but more often than not, they're classified as a "last resort" weapon. Perhaps make dual pistols an option?

If you modelled something like a desert eagle (not entirely unlike the version in counter-strike) then at least you've got a decent backup weapon. You run out of ammo with the shotgun, but instead of doing a painfully long reload you crack out your cheery 7-shooter.

Just a suggestion - I hate seeing pistols marginalised in games

That looks cool insanity, but it just would'nt fit the style of Lonewolf - think 'The A-Team', that's more the era that I'm targetting, like good old uzi's and those RPG's that seem to have been in use forever. I'll look into gun emplacements, but they'll probably be sat upon sandbags.

I agree about the pistol, it has to be a good weapon. Been playing through HL2 on XBox (it's pretty damn good BTW), and just like the PC version I find myself using the pistol a lot, it's great for accurate head shots, head shots have the same effect in Lonewolf (except the heads always fall off). Not sure that a Desert Eagle is a good choice, I think that would be overkill, I think a nice fast handgun would be a better choice, the enemies have a Berreta, which I like but I'm probably gonna go for something like a Colt:

http://www.mil.ee/im/varustus/relvapilt/colt.jpg

For the machine gun I'm sold on a M4A1, like the one Tinkergirl found on that website, it looks really mean and I've modelled similar guns before:

http://members.shaw.ca/planetairsoft01/Pictures/gallery/submitedphotos/SpaceCowboy/Colt-M4A1-Perfect-Version.jpg

It's a Colt as well, but it should be easy to pose, for some reason it's always tricky to put hands and arms on guns with long shoulder thingies (I've no idea what you call them).

I'll post up some WIP images tonight if I get enough done to warrant it.

Hmmm...

Lemme see if I can find a cool pic of one to convince myself...

http://www.subgunvideos.com/albums/Charlie/PICT6070.sized.jpg

That one would look cool, not too doomish - I think that's the same type as they used in Predator. Anyone know what it's actually called? - google searching for chainguns just brings up quake and doom stuff.

If I can get enough concept stuff for that chaingun then I'll do that too - maybe just use them for emplacements though. The helicopters have chainguns, so the continuity should be fine.

There will be a quick grenade key, so rather than give each weapon a secondary shot it'll be possible to quickly toss a grenade with the 'G' key when using the pistol, if I add the grenade launcher to the M4A1 the G key will fire a grenade. I like having the right click as the aim button, like when you press it you get a more focussed aim and I don't want to change that.

There are secret melee weapons too, which you'll only get to use if you find them, strange stuff really that has no place in a FPS game but should be fun.

You could try less common weapons. Liks prototype weapons if that doesn't go too much out of your scope.

I asked a 2D guy to draw me a concept for some weapons... well, those never came, but here are some ideas. The below text is a copy-paste of the in-game voices I was planning. Hope it serves some purpose or at least wide the idea range.

LIR or Low Impact Rocket is a straight forward, close range, fast fire rocket solution. We developed it to face military units that have some kind of armour. It is fast for a rocket, but very slow compared to a machine gun. Since it explodes on impact, it’s quite deadly. ( This is pronounced liar. The idea behind this was to have something between a rocket launcher and a chaingun )

PK is your main weapon. It’s a machine gun of very high speed and one-shot, one-kill type damage. Since Strongarm was designed to stop riots and guerrilla attacks, the Painless Killer is the perfect weapon for non-military mobs that you may have to deal with. Since the ammo is very small, you’ll have a lot of ammo to spare. PK is the nickname. It was called High Speed Low Calibre Rotation Cannon, but no one like to say HSLCRC, so PK… we do have some fun on the labs from time to time. You can easily get more ammo for this weapon from common machine guns. ( Imagine a smaller chaingun, very fast, and extremely powerful )

One idea I was working on was a magnetic inducted weapon although it was never written down.

I can send you the document if you want, I have no use for it at the moment and more weapons are described there.

V

I'm pretty sure I know everything. Doubts are something rare in me and I am never wrong, as this signature can prove.

Those are my favorite weapons in games. Like the paintbrush in Goldeneye 007 in the Dam level. Loved it...

[edit] Oh man...now I'm gonna have to get a Nintendo 64 again and buy Goldeneye and Perfect Dark again. Gotta make sure I get one with an expansion pack. (my first 64 which I recently gave to my brother, was from when they first released it, so it didn't have an expansion pack) Go me.

put a pistol in like a berreta or something and since i like to add comedy props in have the berreta shoot flags that read "bang" on em but instead of just poppin out they actually shoot like a bullet and stick into the enemy, or just add a rubbber band.

or you could bring back some sweet old wwII guns like m1 garand or the tommy

Now, I'm not sure if this fits in with Lonewolf, but it's a great concept. Think of the weapon "Slayer" in Perfect Dark.(yes I still have that game on my mind o.0) Basically it would look like a normal rocket launcher, but when fired, you would manually control the rocket, with increasing speeds as it goes farther. Weps like that are so darn sexy.

Hehe, I'd love to do weapons like that, like totally modern weaponary with gadgets and stuff all over them - it would'nt fit with Lonewolf unfortunately - they're really better for FPS games with more interior levels, lonewolf is largely terrain.

I think I need to stick to the colt, m4a1, and mounted chaingun.

My usual reference for weapons. I also take some of the pics into photoshop, do a cutpaste job to conceptualize hybrids.

Here's the most recent WIP thread - I haven't posted any updates since then.

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=52631&b=8

Here's a pic of the SVD, I'll post up pics of the new guns once their done - started working on the M4A1 but it's fairly tricky, probably take the whole weekend.
