WHOOOHOOO!!! I'm actually going commercial next year with a game created with FPSC!!

I'm going to be rich!! RICH!!

I'm getting 3% of the income!!

Est: $ 20.000 minimum
Est: $ 60.000 maximum

hehehe....

I urge you all to:

1. take a chance and show your game to a distributor.
2. If you are lucky, you should do everything in your power to make the game as good as it can get!

Good luck to ya all!!

Merry Xmas!!

John,

Um, 3% won't make you rich...

And when he said EA, he mean't FPSC EA, not the piece of ****ing **** called electronic arts. If you work at EA, no offense to you, just the way and quality they make games.

@Origin, no offense but what makes you think anyone would buy your game? You said you're getting 3%, that's not much but you think you'd actually earn about an average of 40.000 do you actually know how much you've got to sell then

Let's calculate this: You would sell a game for about 20, you get 3% each game. That's 0.6 each game. But you would like to earn yourself 40.000. So 40.000/0.6= 66.666. There you go... sell about 65.000 games and you got yourself a good income, but isn't that amount a bit to high. If you can accomplish it, than good for you.

I can get speeds of 30 stable in FPSC, that isn't hard. Of course without enemys. Heck, I have over 250 entitys atm, 80 lights, and a heck of a lot of segments. And still keep a good frame rate. A few slowdowns because FPSC can't handle windows or doors, but over all good frame rate.

Make sure it spells out Twenty Thousand Dollars as that minimum.
Otherwise, using that decimal point instead of a comma means that $20.000 is really Twenty Dollars.

Yeah, congrats.
I bet you're not as happy as that middle man who's getting the 97%.

Do yourselves a favor and distribute your games yourself as a download off your website.
Keep 100% if you do your own advertising.
Well about 85%, after you subtract for PayPal and Hosting Fees.

So someone is making over $660.000 from your game and you're only getting $20.000. That sounds like someone is ripping you off big time. I have yet to meet a publisher that only gives you 3% royalties from your own game.

Somehow, I really don't believe this deal, until you show some evidence. We've had a number of people claiming stuff like this and it all turned out to be a hoax.

Fps pack , hello it is not wise to put your game on a retail market and protecting your game fps pack And folk how buy your game must have .zip program on there computer. And if you have custom media you won't see it only in your game. if i were you i would ask the
publisher for a good program or make your one .It's easy just use vb6 or delphi. And one last work i don't hate fps-pack it's a great program and it's free.

I have one question.. Origin, How old are you? No offense but I've worked as a lead artist in the games industry for years... And there's a few things I have learned with age...

#1 - You never get "rich". Sorry man, but unless it's the next AAA title for xbox360 I'd be glad to just break even! And even the AAA titles need to worry about this. Look at Stainless Steel Studios, developer of Age of Empires, I had lots of good buddies there, and they just went belly up 2 months ago.

#2 - Read your Contracts!!!!!! Read EVERYTHING! Trust me on this! I have been offered a couple gigs here and there for publishing. Make sure they are reliable! Nothing feels worse than having slaved 3 years away on something only to gain pennies in return. They may even take control of the rights to your IP once you do sign. You could find your games sequel is being produced by some other team somewhere and you have no control whatsoever. It happens all the time.
I offer you my congrats but please be careful,
don't let your excitment get the best of you.

This is funny. At last count, my Load/Save was over 500 lines long, and I had to change almost 2500 lines of the Entities list to save the states, positions, etc and I'm still not ready to release it.

I would like to see how your "Patch" works.

I have my doubts since I have been working on the code for 2 months now and have a direct contact with the people who made FPSC.

But you never know...

The best way of getting a copy of vb6 is to find it at ebay. But if You are lucky You can find one for free on the Internet..
Why dont You use a professional installer instead?

I'm skeptical of this thread after reading it all. To me it seems like Origin is some young kid that had an idea of emailing a publisher about a game he created/will create, and they actually emailed him back. Once he got the email he was so excited that he started going crazy customizing his game and getting it ready.

It can also be assumed that whatever publisher he emailed must be really hard up for cash by taking 97% of the profits. Definetly not someone good to do business with.

Good luck with your game!

I agree with previous. I have a real problem seeing someone going commercial with a FPSC game. Especially since the size of FPSC games are supersized. Create a good 2d game instead. It has a bigger chance going gold.

i dont see a problem..........many companies take new contracts and offer a low percentage, many famous pop stars get a very low percentage of sales and so start lines in clothing and perfumes and stuff to try to get more money.
maybe he should have tried bartering but $20,000 for making a game in fpsc was good i thought.
i do have a question though so i can keep an eye out....whats the name of the game the publisher is taking on,does the publisher know it was written in fpsc and that could effect sales.
how about a couple of screenies to show us.

anyway...good luck, it would actually be nice to see this peice of software ( fpsc) live up to its hype as ive had my doughts.

Hi, Jim...!

So you want to kow how old I am?
I'm 26 years old.

To comment #1:

When I said rich I just said it for the crowd...

To comment #2:

I have hired a lawyer to look at the contract.

@CellBlock studios:

Hi, my code has become 15000(!) lines longer because of the Save/Load Script, and it is Just the first build.
The code have some bugs that we are working on right now.
I'm looking forward to riker 9! If Riker 9 have better Saving and loading than my patch then maybye I'll use it!
If that is the case, then you will be included in the credits for the game!

hi and congratz,

i still think that 3% is very low what about the interlectual propertie right issue, you say you have custom media, and you are going to let your publisher profit from your efforts at 3%??????

well if it all true, and i hope for you it is can you do some custom characters for me and i will give you a lump sum for the work and 5% net profits

oh yer are you being paid net or gross?

@origin
congratulations and good luck!
i can't wait to see and buy(!) a commercial and successful fpsc-game in the shops. if your dream comes true, then i bought the right engine to develop my games.

besides: i am a musician and if a record company would promise me to make $ 200.000 with a completely finished and obviously very good album from me then i would never sign a 3%-contract.

OK, I hear you all!

I think I will discuss the contract with the publisher and my lawyer, because I agree, 3% is a low income...

I really want to sell the game myself, but i don't have time or money to make a website and a webshop system...

Suggetions are GOLDEN today!

Thanks,

I'll do some testing!

And about selling it yourself, I can make web sites, web stores, and have some web space (free!!!), the only problem with any selling it themselves iis that a publisher send it to EB Games, Gamestop, all those game stores, when you do it yourself, you don't.
