Here is a little demo for bug finding that I have not found yet. Try it out and let me know if it sucks or not.

I think more people will download it if you do a 'zip' version.

The zip version is 3 times the size of the rar version. That's why its in rar format, sorry for the inconvenience.

Download PowerArchiver includes ZIP, RAR, GZIP and loads more!!!!!!

If you don't work for it, how do you expect to get it?

I've found the disappearing Plumber trick on paper and will upload a new version when I get home this evening. (Without the media-for those that have already downloaded the botched version)

i usually use WinRaR and WinZip, both cover my main means - i have the registered version of WinZip though which can get zips within like 10-50kb of a similar .rar, you then run through Gzip just to make sure its small enough

having an archiver which is capable of Gzip is really essential when you're dealing with Linux/Unix/SGI machines all the time. Probably check this out later

also for next time... Winrar is capable of exporting self-extracting exe's for not alot more (which is why if the rar is a good 200kb+ smaller than a zip its good to use), only add like 50-60kb to the front and anyone can extract.

TRS80,

Collision is generally pretty good, I couldn't find any instances of the Mario character walking through or falling through solid objects.

When Mario is up against a block you can see a faint outline effect on the block - is this intended to be a shadow or is it something that needs dealing with?

and of course the other thing is that Mario can keep jumping even when he is not on a flat surface - but you were aware of that I'm sure

Sorry guys, Ive been busy at home.

I forgot that winrar makes selfextracting archives. I'll make them from now on.

@Rob K. Thanks for the info. The midair jump is implemented for the testing to go where-ever is needed for testing. Thanks for the feedback.

I have a new demo that will upload soon. It has all the engine parts running even though they are not visual yet. I need a fps and a alltime with all video cards with at least 16mb video memory and system specs. if possible. If anyone can report this to me it will determine the number of systems that the game will run on. I will post when I get it uploaded.

P.S. @ Rob, I forgot to mention that my sprites havn't been finalized yet. They are still dirty cause I havn't taken the time to make them perfect yet. Just kinda there to give an idea of engine funtion.

You could fill in the website box in your profile and you wouldn't have to write the adress out every time. Cool demo, like the graphics and the level maker, he can fly!!!

@Hamish, the alltime is the time in milliseconds it takes my engine to loop through 60 times.

Anyone have a pentium 266 to try it on?

Um, I still need a sprite artist, anyone interested? I don't think I can do both, not enough time. I only get about two or three hours a night, if that, to work on this project. Didn't get anything done until today since the 2nd.

The jumping is wonky to get around the level easier for testing, I'll take the midair and timer out of it for the next demo, aight?

Thanks for the specs.

Very rare, but the server could have been full or down at the time also. But I haven't gotten any accelerators to work with the way they have it firewalled.

I got it tested on a P266 with ATI rage XL (8mb). Lol, 60 fps and 22 alltime. I'm going to add some more eye candy and strive for 400mhz cpu 16mb video on the final release. I cleaned up the sprites and fixed the jump that was annoying all of you and will post a new demo when you can squash some stuff and get scored for it.

Also don't don't get used to the look as it is now, cause Nintendo has not give me to okay yet, and if they don't in a couple of weeks I'm changing the sprites. Something like a barefoot hillbilly stomping on possums and ducks or something. What do you think you would like to see?

Although the gameplay will remain the same.

I was just wondering if there was any new Dark Basic programmers like my self that would like the source to the scroll engine I wrote to help them get started on a project for the contest. Of course you will have to modify it for your own needs and make your own sprites and do your own collision. Its just the display engine.

If anyone would like to use it I could post it on my website next time I update the demo.

I'm not "new" and I can already write scrolling routines, but would be v interested to see your code if you are releasing it. I like to see the way others program and compare it with my own, trying to learn new methods and optimisations

No its not, but some people are new to programming and not just darkbasic and I don't mind sharing what I do in darkbasic cause it is just for fun, I have other languages that I know well that I make money with.

For that matter, I'll even toss my simple level editor in that is for the engine, cause I want to see some more nes classics, like: Rygar, Contra, Ikari warriors, Gradius, ghosts n goblins, alot of good games were scrollers and the gameplay was pretty good cause they didn't have much else to work with.

Maybe I upload the stuff tonight, I'm feeling pretty energetic but I got to comment the stuff cause it don't have any. Nothing worse than posting code that nobody understands how to use. Should be up tommorrow sometime.

i works at 60fps and 16 alltime, i did notice a bug tho.
if you move left and right while holding down jump mario just goes up and up and up. and if you press jump while in mid-air he rejumps like a jedi.

Sorry for the lack of updates, but have not had much spare time plus computer problems, but I've gotten to a point where map editor needs to updated to reflect the new engine funtions.

So, while I'm working on the editor, I have uploaded another bug test for you guys to play with.

Please report any bugs and or system specs, and Alltime, and FPS, please.

Thanks for the interest.
