I have an animated .x file that was exported from 3dsmax7 with the panda exporter. This model when set "show object bounds" shows that there is an invisible object attached to the model's right foot or toe, and moves in synch with the motion of the foot. The object seems to float behind and to the right of the model, and is only visible when "show object bounds" is turned on. I have disected the .x file looking for an extra limb and couldn't find one. I've tried disabling the exportation of dummy limbs in the panda export dialog. I have tried many many things and can't seem to figure out where this limb came from or how to get rid of it. I am worried that this phantom limb thing will interfere with collisions.

Any ideas?

EDIT: .X file attached

That got rid of the phantom behind the model, but a new larger phantom appeared beneath the model and appears to move with the left leg.

Nope. No stray vertices on hidden objects or anything like that in the max file.

You've probably done this but if not try dragging a bounding box around just the character, getting as close to it as possible, then cutting the character object, creating a new file and pasting it in there to see if anythings changed.

Just for some general information try getting the z size of your object in DBP using the OBJECT SIZE Z command, Im wondering if the "phantom object" is being included in properties like this (I.e the object's z size will be very large if it is). If the object isnt being included in things like this than you shouldnt have a problem.

One last idea would be to create a sphere and position it at each of the characters limbs positions, once you get the limb to be positioned at the phtantom box limb you'll know which limb number the box limb is, and can then just use DELETE LIMB to delete the phantom box object.

Ill try downloading the file now, could you possibly submit your .3DS file instead of the .x, so I can see if its possibly Panda adding this limb when the conversion takes place?

Ok I think I fixed it, I made a simple DB program to check and the only bounding boxes I saw were on the character, no phantom objects anywhere else. If this doesnt work then Im pretty sure you must be adding a limb somewhere else in your code to the object and then hiding it. Ive included the .3ds and .x models in the download.

That model indeed does not have the phantom object(s), but the animation info is missing. I will try the suggestions you posted earlier, and here is my .max file attached if you care to investigate further.

Thanks

Ok, I did as you suggested and got the size of the object. The first pic is the size of my original .x file object, and the second pic is of the object you modified that does not have the phantom limb. The sizes are similar, so I'm thinking that while the phantom object is weird, it won't really be a problem after all.

Ah, I forgot Wings doesnt export the animation information (I dont have 3DSM on this computer so I used Wings to check the model out). Well goodluck then, and yes by the looks of things it wont be a problem (once again, Im almost sure you're adding the limb somewhere in your code but I cant say without seeing it).
