OK, so a lot of people have been complaining about the (nonexistant) Save/Load features of FPSC. I think i might have just worked it out on a per level basis.
Heres what i say:

Instead of putting a link to the game on the desktop, put a link to a special launcher program. Also, Make each level a separate exe. The Launcher Program (hereby refered to as LP) contains the main menu. So, if you clicked new game, then you get level one. But, if you clicked "load game" there would be a box to put in a code, revealed to you at the end of the last level you beat. The LP would have a datbase of codes, one for each level.

So theirs by cheese covered soulotion

If the LP has the codes and it calls the levels, wouldn't it be easier to create txt files with profiles? I just mention this because I never enjoyed the "code" method to go to a level.

I'm pretty sure I know everything. Doubts are something rare in me and I am never wrong, as this signature can prove.

Wow - good idea.

How easy would it be to set this up -
The launcher program and the DB?

Would I need DBPro for this?

no

I was working on this "Idea" (it's been here for a long time) incorporating it into the Menu Monster, but the lack on intrest in Menu Monster lead me to abandon it.

I could probally make save load for FPSC in 5 min (just save all the arrays, all the variables, and just about everything) but it would be inefficent... I am content to wait for Cell Blocks, besides, we shouldn't have 9 different FPSC_Engines.

Just wait for Riker 9...

Although my opinion will change, the fact that I am right will not.

yeah, besides, couldn't people just sneek a peek at the .txt file and get all the codes from there? I love changing my scores for games that way.

When FPSC develops enough, lets make a Redwall game!

Of course, but if the choice is save/load or cheeze, I'd prefer save/load.

Welp, I wouldn't use it until I could encrypt it. But it is a good idea!

That may be true, but i just thought of it...

@mabuggi:
you wouldn't need DBpro, you could use just about anything...
Personaly, i was thinking of using VB .NET

@sunflash:

It wouldn't need to be a .txt file, i could use xor encryption, a custom format, or it could be embedded in the exe.

Use an outside encrypted file and throw some player-profile routines in there and you'll do all the comunity a favor.

Good idea mate, good luck.

You can get it to work, but I would only use it for testing only. Don't even think of giving it out for people to play with.

Its a good idea - If anyone really needs / wants / cant wait for riker 9 (its like waiting for HL2 except much more exciting)

I would love to see this implemented, plus it'd be sweet not to go to bed praying that my `puter doesnt melt whilst it builds 20 levels in one pop.

If you get it working, I would love to have a peek.

which is why DBP is soo good to write it with...
write it as a byte, instant encryption.

Code Master, you would want to make it as a regualr game, and merely have the game terminate after you win 1 level, then edit setup.ini and change the start level name, and change the main-menu names.

HL2 may have been delayed 3 months (in fact Im pretty sure it was a bit longer) -

But it was well worth the wait

Im sure Riker 9 will be too.
