1 through 3 depend on how good of a modeler you are and the 4 one depends on your personal opinion.

C4D for $300?! that's cheap
on the offical site C4D cost, EUR 602,59.

C4D is Really that good if you have the skills, and it takes
time to develop such skills, don't expect to build great models
in a week it will take a few month in a good case.

That depends more on the user than the software. I suggest you stop asking too many questions about which modeler to use and get a free one to start off with.. its more help to yourself if you post work and let people comment on what you're doing. More expensive modlers does make the workflow faster in most cases, and does have more features.. but that will help you next to nothing if you dont know how to model anything.

Now, please keep your thread count down. Its really the same post over and over, and this subject has been brought up too many times already. As soon as a Mod comes online again, I'll point him in this direction.. and I'm almost sure most of your thread will be locked.

Take a look at the stickies as well.. very helpful.

C4D is limited DB newbie. Probably a watermark and time restriction. What i suggest is that you pick up a free modeller (Anim8or or Wings) and play around. Make sure you dont follow tutorials but instead you get a grasp of controls first. Understand what each thing does and how to use it for your needs. Then if you want to know theory you should use tutorials. I have already posted many links for you on : How do i _____. The one on Box modelling+subdivide can be easily used for guns.

Stop asking us what we can do...and it is worth $300 if you like the interface, modeling style. And dont dislike something because it takes multiple days to do. I'm trying to make sonic, a very simple character, and it's eating the hell out of my computer time.

It's for my remake of sonic 2. And with sonic the hard part is the spikes on the back of his head believe it or not. Would be easier if Wings supported vert by vert...Beveling the vertices doesnt seem to work.

aah i see, i am completly wrong then. I think how i would do it is just a) make soo many verts that i can just move them in place
B) make basic shape and then alpha map (although i dont know how , i have seen others do it and the results are amazing)

There is no Watermark or Time restriction on the C4D Demo. It just doesn't allow you to export models or save video files. O and it has a few features more disabled also.

1. Yes, once you've learnt how, its easy
2. Well, I have started a fairly detailed Maxda MX 5, and its running quite nicely
3. Yes, have you seen my character models?
4. Actually its worth more than that in my opinion, but I wouldn't go out buying it unless you try the demo, this is a professional tool, so its gonna be pricey.

C4D vs Milkshape - Well C4D has a lot more tools, a much much better renderer, you can turn on and off your backface culling, its an all round package when Milkshape is primarily game modelling, this means C4D can range from game models, to impressive 3D still to whole animations

C4D vs Free modellers- Free modellers are designed for those new to modelling and have no budget, but C4D is designed for those who can afford it, and has a lot more professional power, for new people they don't really need that much power yet, when they're getting the ropes of things.

C4D vs Max- Max = a lot more expensive, a prefered favourite of game and movie companies, has a more powerful renderer and more tools (about the same amount of tools as C4D Studio, but thats about the same price as Max)

On a final note, have you seen Polar Express, Gladiator and Van Helsing, Cinema 4D was used in those.

But try the demo, you're new and well spending out a lot of money is not a good idea yet as you may regret it later, I see people buy max because they think its the god of modelling and then find it harder than they expected and regret it

OK, theres only one way to put this.

YOU AND ONLY YOU CAN DECIDE WHAT "THE BEST" PROGRAM IS, BECAUSE IT IS YOU WHO WILL BE USING IT!

That said, any 3D Modelling program can create sweet guns/people/houses/planets/whatevers as long as you are skilled at the modeller. Your in the mind set that "Expensive 3D Modeler = Easy to Create SWEET Models" Your very, incredibly wrong. In fact, its more along the lines of the opposite. The industry standard modelling tools are usually much more complicated than basic modelers. You can create any kind of model in ANY kind of modeling program, IT ALL DEPENDS ON YOUR SKILL.

I just dont get how some people dont get this....

more power to you RPGamer. they should download the demos to see that there models will not improve from the app they had before atleast not int the 30 days. It may look better render wise but the model itself will be the same quality if not worse.

yeah, no save/export, but it's like twice as powerful as milkshape, and has almost 4X the features although milkshape IS good for file format changing make it in C4D then load it in milkshape and export it to all 400 million export formats

Now -thats- funny.

MS3D has allll you need for low poly modelling. If I were to spend $300 on a modeling app. it would be on Softimage XSI|Standard, or even the advanced student version. Im not selling anything anytime soon...

@Newbe, the thread is irritating me, not the fact you're getting the prog cheaper, I don't care if you can get it cheaper, some people are more lucky than others.

Quote: "whats with sudden wave of C4D fanboys. used to be just sepp and add lol "

lol, I think people are liking it because its cheap and easy. Funny thing is, other 3D forums I go to, have Max fanboys, and whenever you say something against 3DS Max, they act like Halo fanboys, I guess thats how fan boys are....

@RPG, I didn't like XSI that much, then again I only tried the mod tool, but its looks pretty sweet looking at results, if I had the money, I'd buy the lot, C4DStudio, Max, Maya, houdini, Lightwave, the lot But nope, haven't won the bloody lottery yet....
