Im going to give a word of advice to people who are wanting to start modeling:
People seem to be adopting the idea that just because they cant model on a program straight away, it must be the programs fault and not thiers.
I diddn't wake up one morning to find myself modeling a Ferrari Enzo. It takes time. And no, good models dont have to come from a good program. Heck, the things i make on C4D could be put to shame by some of the models someone could easily make in milkshape.
Perfect example of this. I own Photoshop... Extreamly powerful 2D Graphics program... But if you could see some of the stuff the guys on this forum are coming out with made in Microsoft Paint....I could only dream to achieve on Photoshop... Do you see what im saying?
My line of Programs:
3DCanvas 6
3DCanvasPro
Blender
Anima8or
3D Studio Demo
C4D Demo for 1 year ish
C4D 8.1 Studio bundle. (Damn R9... makes me green with envy)
^^^ And thats not over the space of one week... thats over about 2-3 years.
Just because you see someone achive fantastic results on one program, does not mean that is for you. Play around a little. See whats out there. Try, www.gooogle.co.uk. That tends to find things in that big mass of web out there.
So please dont ask "Whats the best modeler?" "Cast your Votes" Etc etc etc... its not the way to do it. Demos are there for a reason and to be fair, if there was one modeler out there that everyone loved and it was perfect for everyone, there wouldn't be other modelers now would there?
Another thing:
Dont try to Run before you Walk.
I see far to many people practicaly saying "I've just started to learn modeling" Here is my attempt at a detailed model of St Pauls Catherdral.
Why not familiarise yourself with the program first? Why not look at its features and tools. Then when u've checked something out, create a wierd alien or something, to exercise ur building skills. My first model in Cinema 4D was a robot buggy type thing. Here i have a picture of it. See how quickly i got from 0 to that? i mean its not great, but its a start!
All i did was messed around with its functions for a while. Bit of trial and error.
The best way to learn how to model is to model something out of your imagination. Just like you were teaching a child to draw, you dont sit the child infront of a landscape view and expect a masterpiece now do you?
I hope this has helped someone (And hope it made Sense),
