when i make a sphere and extrude it and the subdevide it i get little things hanging off of it attached is a screen shot can anyone help?

First of all you are using 239. Blender 2.4 was released a few days ago go to their homepage www.blender3d.org.
Can you post the .blend file of it? I tried making that shape and couldn't get the white things. I notice that you are using an old OS which may be a problem. What did you do exactly?

Explain to me why some people pay money for 3d software? Its not 3d till its been blended. wwww.blender3d.org

im running me lol its the most buggy os in the world.
i took a uv sphere and selected the bottom verts and extruded then i added the subsurf modfier and it did this i will download the current version

i dont have enough hard disk to do a boot disk. i just ordered a new comp so i should have it in the next week
