Hi,

Does anyone know of an exporter that will convert a model from Maya Personal Learning Edition to a format that i can use in Darkbasic Pro. My current export options are .mp and .fbl.

Any help would really be appreciated,

Mike

Maya PLE is for learning purposes only, they will not let you use anything you make, because they expect you to buy the full version, Personal Learning Edition is a posh way of saying demo, and well those file formats are not convertable

i'm sure an exporter for ple would be in violation of the eula, but i have never read the eula for maya ple, you should go and read it, then you will know what you can do with it

I can get an academic version of Maya Complete 7 for £165. It doesnt say that this is a cut down version, so I'm guessing the only catch is that you can't use it for commercial projects. You have to proove that you are a student by sending them a photocopy of your student card but that isnt a problem.

Anyone had any experience with this, or know if this is feature restricted in any other ways?

Thanks for your time,

Mike

I have Maya 6.5 and just downloaded a program called deep exploration thats supposed to be able to convert it. But of course, with everything I download theres a problem and I havent gotten it to convert yet. I'll have to mess around with stuff for a few hours but it should work.

Ok way off topic but what I'm saying is if you could somehow get your hands on a full version of maya, deep exploration looks like the only way to go. But Alias is crazy w/ their PLE there is no way you'll make anything good out of it. (I hate their watermarks so much)

Basically any proof that you are in education will do. You can have a letter from the school you attend.

What I'm hoping to get from the package is all the features of Maya, and be able to export the objects to DBP. I'm not bothered about using the models for commercial projects. If anyone has any information on the limitations of the academic student version then i would be very grateful.

UPDATE - The student version of the software is exactly the same as the normal ultimate/complete version. There are no shortcuts or technical limitations. The only limit is you can't use the models you create for commercial purposes. This is brilliant, and as soon as the end of the month comes, £170 of my hard earned cash will be swinging Maya's way.

kewl, you can do this with Cinema 4D, not sure about the student Maya version, you can buy an update on your liscence to commercial, so when you feel you are good enough and can afford it, there you go, and nice bit of money to spend
