Would there a maximum number of people able to play??
Besides server limitations whould a dbpro program be able to handle 1000s of people?
Besides that does anyone know of a file converter to .x from .ms3d?

Get lithunwrap. It will import .ms3d and export to .x and it's free.

As far as the online thing, it's pretty unrealistic to try and make a huge online game especially if you just joined the forums yesterday/last year. Theoretically you could have 1000s of people i guess. It would probably be pretty slow though.

Lith Unwrap is hard to find, I spent a day to find it and it is also hard to learn. But when you learn it, its sooo fun to UV map things

The direct play limit is 256players but there are ways to run multiple instances of the application and interpolate between the servers etc to increase this. Other multipayer plugins will allow larger numbers its not suggested to try and do this as your a newcommer it will take time an experience.
