I have asked my selve a question , witch is troubling me lately :

Models of car making companyes are forbiden to be made and /or used in your games without proper licence ?? - is that true , and can i just use real models in my game ?

(like why would gta san andreas have copys of cars...???)

You can make car models and sell them, so far no ones been making any noise. BUT, you will need permission/lisence if you were to use their design and/or branding in a commercial product. AND its not really about the money, but more about how you represent their product to the mass market.

I still remember way back when hummers first became popular, and every other game was sticking them in, they had this ad in game mags. The tagline read something like, "We build them tough, but our lawyers are tougher."

Joh is right, loads of people model car models and use them with out permission of the company, think how many emails a day they'd get It would be irritating Anyway, if you wanna model a car, go ahead, no one will sue

I made a car and tried to sell it on turbosquid as a carrea gt and it was taken down because i didnt' have permission. Just don't sell it under a real name and you should be fine.

So this would mean if I want to donate my Lotus Elise model to Quikly Studio and the community, I would need permission, right?

Well he won't sell the model itself, but it will be free, he's a grown man, I'll be able to discuss whether or not he will be within law

No - legally, you cannot reproduce a named car in digital form. That's why so many driving games don't use proper names for the 'strangely similar' cars they have. It's also why Gran Turismo DOES have the proper names - and you'll never see a single scratch on any of the cars in that game. Also, you might want to watch out that theyve copywrited the SILLOUETTES (sp) of certain cars (some Porches, if I remember) as well - so even just chaning the name is sometimes not enough.

It's the same with guns. They're copyrighted. Change the name, and change the look, and you're safe. One day, Kalashnikov is going to sue the world, I just know it

However - if you want to go ahead, and do it anyway, well - its your choice. You take the risk. Just know it's not legal to begin with.

Yeah I mentioned it to Kangaroo on his own forums, he's aware, my lotus will be fine to use as long I don't call it lotus.x or have its name anywhere, and change it a little, so he can't get sued
