I just spent 4 hours last night making this and I figured I'd post it here. Comments are good. I take criticism personally but flame away anyway

[Edit] and yes theres no one in the driver seat. im lazy

[Another Edit] I tried to fix a lot of the things joey suggested, and here is what I came up with. I photoshopped in some motion blur and now I think it looks like there's too much going on in the scene. Anyway, do you think it's better, or worse? and Joey, does it meet your standards?

Meh, you are gonna need to get toguhened up cuz I got some criticism

Ok, here goes. These are whats wrong with your picture:
1. Theres no sky
2. There no one in the seat
3. the ground looks weird
4. In a quad pod racer, the electric beams cross
5. Whos pod racer is it? I dont think I've seen it. Looks like a rip off of Ben Quadrinaros.
6. The one exploding is the same racer.
7. No rocks or anything
8. Bad angle (can be fixed)
9. Needs more detail on the cart part.
10. No dust
11. No dirt flying from the crash
12. I see some motion blur, but not enough for pod racers
13. Not enough detail on from of the engines.
14. Dont act like ur all great and better than us.
15. You probably stole some fancy program to make that.
It takes true skill to make something good in a more primitive program.

So there you go. Dotn worry tho. It's ok to be a newbie. Everyone is sometime... Just doont post stupid stuff and we wont flame. C ya!

Quote: "14. Dont act like ur all great and better than us."

This one made me laugh, to be honest, his post sounded like HE was the one acting all better than us, because he can pick out all of those things. To me Constructive Criticism is best through praise and criticise, and well he made a great scene a lot better than others, there could be improvements, but praise is what I would think is necessary here

Quote: "It's ok to be a newbie."

I'd say he was less of a newbie to be honest, I've seen a lot of newby work, if he was a guy being taught something like 3DSMax or Maya, then that would be considered newbie

Quote: "Just doont post stupid stuff and we wont flame."

To me that actually sounded stupid, thats really why I am flaming, its not stupid, its new work, its an improvement, its progress, its worth praise, okay, its not the best of scenes, but its good.

Not a flame this one, but this isn't necessarily true, have you tried houdini, its the most expensive app I've seen for 3D modelling, and its the hardest I've ever tried, it is very powerful and certianly not primitive (look at the CGI in Charlie and the chocolate factory) best I've got out of it is a bullet.

And well, if I am not mistaken it is a blender render, therefore, then it was a challenge to model anyway lol

but are you being trained in maya, I personally would say Joey is a bit tight with his comments, yeah you are new but better than some people here, and well he can't expect you to do that if you're new with Maya, if he is so superior, he should know that for a new guy you will need to know how, considering those points are obvious.

And well I'm just following his philosophy
Quote: "Just doont post stupid stuff and we wont flame. "

I think what he posted was stupid in places

What I would say to improve really is just have the seat you couldn't be bothered to make, then try to improve the texture on the landscape, does look like you used a simple Maya shader, and well try to elaborate there, and maybe use tutorials on other scenes or the same scene to see what you can improve on it, but it is a good scene, keep at it dude

He never really claimed to be good, he just asked for C&C. Your flaming is really misplaced here...

The only thing that he said were good is the comments

Quote: "Comments are good."

And I got the impression he feels that its not very good anyway....

His flaming is really misplaced anywhere, points & Crits were correct and useful, but the flaming was way off

No kidding. And flaming is never necessary, although I can't claim innocence myself. (refer to the ANJL crisis not to long ago, I got very carried away with it...)

@Joey:

Way to start off on the forums and make your self look like a complete and utter moron! Nice one!

Half of your "criticisms" aren't even related to modelling and just stupid comments to begin with.

So either wisen up or shut up. Your choice.

Anyways, "The Crazy" I think if you make the objects connecting the turbine like things to the cock pit more wire like (especially with the one that is exploding) then it will be amazing. But pretty good work you have going there.

Awesome! It's amazing what a little bit of detail, light, and shading can do to an image. It looks much better now, and I can't think of any crits at the moment, but I will probably have some later.

I love to see how one simple change improves it as a whole. The wires look much better now.
