Hi all,

I started a while ago on this but BROKE my right wrist in a stoopid accident. I'm doing BombJack but i'm afraid the textures may not be up to scratch, 'cos I can't DRAW now!!
but the game should be fun anyhow.

Finally something to post: the title screen (will probably change a bit)

Don't worry there's a game too, but the characters are a bit small on screen to do it justice in a screenie. That's the player character though, exactly as he looks in the game. (also use an older version of him as my avatar for now)...

Critiques welcome, nice or not

Here's some rough ones, it's hard to get a good shot with a broken wrist...

Bottom left is a screen from the original 1984 Tehkan game.
You'll have to wait 'n find out how it plays though raven, I can tell you that it's fast, very much faster than I first thought possible, even though I was fanatical about chopping the polycount down to absolute minimum, and will be lots of fun if all goes like I hope, just wish I could use my drawing hand instead of all the tedious left hand labor, that makes it a bit of a chore sometimes..

So far there's music, ai, player movement(which is real fun to play about with,
basic bomb collection, sparkle effects, enemy spawning effects (that bright white scintillation you can see) and a powerup which lets you turn the tables on the enemies.

Still to do: lighting, fogging, level 3, and combine all my bit's 'n pieces but that shouldn't take too long 'cos they're all in functions.
Sprites and High score tables might just get in there, and some bonus'.

New screen, level 3.
All these levels are just gonna be rough for now I think, I'll smooth them out later right now I have to work on AI and powerups, and also the scoring system. If I can squeeze it in I'll put in 2 player mode. But there'll be three levels to play at least in my retro entry now.

Tryin' to, but 'tis not quite as simple as I first thought!!
Basically because the AI's are all completely different. But I'm getting there.
Not many people seem to remember BombJack, over 200 views and you're the 3rd person to reply, thanx

Heh, thanks for the interest, but I'd rather wait 'till it's finished, those shot's don't do it justice, and neither would a demo at this point.
Only two days to wait

new shot, bomb arrays complete, only 3 level backgrounds though, night level to be added hopefully before deadline. Music done on a c64 took a while
Showing what happens when you take a powerpill, the nasties turn into collectable tokens, but only till the music runs out... Then they're back with a vengance

Worked on shadowing the background models still got to add lights and fog...
Oh yeah, you get a BIG bonus now if you collect over 20 fusing bombs in a row without being killed.

A little update:

Here's what sadly didn't make it into my submission, though it's only about two more hours worth of work...

Flashing eyes on the enemies.
Enemy evolution.
"b" powerup
"e" powerup
all the models I made for the evolving, so

drill snail
deathball
flying saucer
blackball

these characters didn't make it 'cos my head's so shot with flu I can't think about even the simplest ai.

Sprite graphics, replaced with text for the rgc submission.
Level backgrounds 4 and 5(the night level)

My additions to the original concept, like exploding bombs
(if you don't make it to a fusing bomb before the fuse burns out it explodes taking a life and causing a chain reaction on the other bombs) and mesh animated superhero cape was hard to work on that without the memblocks, got them now but not in time...
____________________________________________________

What Did make it:

Level Backgrounds Egypt,Athens, Fantasy Castle.
enemies:
Snowman
Death Eagle

powerup "p" (not moving)
bonus 20,000 points for collecting 21 firebombs in a row
All player animation/movement.

Rough score system, to be expanded with the addition of the "b" powerup
Only the highest score remembered.

Music for three themes, as well as context sensitive thematic elements.
Some sounds, like for bomb collection, token collection, jump, walk, death.

All the rest is actually in the .exe already!!, just the functions aren't being called to activate them, most frustrating

Still, after a rest I may get this done in time to resubmit before the deadline, but more likely than that I'll need a long rest, plus it's my girlfriend's b'day today, happy birthday Sarah

That said, it's still fun to play in it's current state, and its my first darkbasic game so I guess I should be happy...

I'll upload the demo to my webspace tomorrow or the next day and post a link to it here.
I may also post a link to the character viewer, so you can see what the other non implemented enemies/effects look like animated, like the snowman's tazer beam. gotta sleep now
Good luck everyone who entered!!

It's tooooooo big to fit on my webspace, but doesn't have to be, so when I get the chance I'll cut out some of the unnessecary junk and then I'll have tp pull 3D.Texturizer off to fit BombKid in the measly 5meg space I have.
Give it a week
