WooHoo!!!! Looking great, glad to see you did that thing with the coulds!

Menu could use some visual touch-up, but it looks very useable.

Do you have any plays for a story mode, or just the basic beat the evil god plan you have right now?

(pssst, make a Black and White remake next! )

I'll download it now and give you some in-game feedback...
done! Works great! No complaints here. However, could you make multiple maps for us to choose from? And I know it wouldn't do anything... but could we be the evil god as well, even if it only means our area of influence is red?

I just downloaded it. How do you build stuff? The enemy just makes buildings like crazy, but my side doesn't ever feel like building.

Looks awesome so far!

Bizar Guy yes there is sorta going to be a story mode, but mainly leaning towards beating the evil god.
Intro is just something to break away from the normal, load and play, will have the usuall game setup like save/load/options...ect.
There will be a bigger map and you choose the level you start at until you have defeated all area's. Different lands have different rules.
And yes, my graphic skills arent real good .(got any idea's, magic pen?)
As for a black and white remake, yes thats on the back burner, with out the stupid creature.
Ummm..... i guess u could choose Good or Evil, never thought of that. Will consider it.

UFO, the land has to be level for them to build, the more flat area around a worshipper the bigger the building he can make. The bigger the house the slower they pop out, but you gain a tonne more mana. And i guess you cant beat it becuase its hard on that map. . And the new thread was for a new almost complete project. sorry if this causes problem's.

thanks guys, its back to work for me on monday, so less time on this.
cya at finished product.

cheers

well there i was playing it for around an hour, painstakingly transporting all my men across to the enemys land making them all fight, then i get a array sunscript out of bounds error, i think the lightning should kill them quicker aswell.

dark coder, did it give a line number at all, and yes i think the lightning should do more damage aswell, but when the enemy uses it on you, it seems to much already. especially when he uses it to just scorch the ground

no u cant drown them. to easy to win that way.

the 2 bars at the bottom of the screen are population. the 2 smaller ones are the mana bars.

He does use mana, but he is alot better at repairing/building than u, he fears no-one and is not afraid to die, he doesnt take time into account, he was concieved for one purpose alone.
To destroy you!

hehe, sorry i couldnt resist.

sounds like your enjoying yourself, that makes this whole project worth while.

ps. keep an eye out for that error again.

Wow, this is one addictive little game. I was finally getting good enough that i might have beaten the computer in a while but after one of his earthquakes I found a really bad bug where the earthquake shaking wouldn't stop and if i tryed to level the ground it became a great pillar as high as possible.

Just another quick question.
Would you like to have the option of a computer assistant, to help make bigger buildings?
Or much rather doin it all manually.

I have added the option, and it does help build up a humungass town, but i'm thinking it makes it a little too easy.

Post opinions please.

Actually, give me 1 hour will post updated demo.
with the help.

***edit****
here ya go

'c' will turn on and off the assist ai.

let me know what u think.

ok. so its been a while, so I thought it was about time to update the demo.

Its about 98% complete.

rules:
Cant drown enemy.
People create more mana when in houses.
The bigger the house the more mana you recieve
The smaller the house the faster the population grows.
If you select show health and right click on a house, you can boot some one out early, but with next to no health.
Up and down arrow keys turn sound up or down(will change later when options is done)
No options at the moment.
Game auto saves progress, start a new game creates a save game file at the begining of the game. Load naturally loads progress made so far.
Escape to quit.

Remember this is still WIP. So if you find any bugs please post them.

cheers

Xenocythe Resurrected
Sorry, I thought everyone new populous

Anyway. The little guys(your followers) run around looking for land to build on. If the land is flat, they will build on it. depending on the size of the flat area around them, is how big the house is they will make. Once inside a house they start making baby's(for a simpler term), and after a while they pop out another person.
As this is happening, you are constanly getting mana to alter the ground around them, the more flat area they have, the more houses can be built, and the more mana you receive.
The buttons are only accessable when you have enough mana for that specific spell.

I hope this has cleared it up a little for you.

I really like this game! Well done, great job! I couldn't get the little guys to build anything except tents though, even if they had loads of space? Anyway, really good remake, wasted half an hour or so of work time playing that, and really enjoyed it

It was pretty cool, but I didn't even know what color I was :S Am I green?
Also, I couldn't seem to do anything...it was very slow too. Maybe you should add a speed up button. Cool Game though. It is awesome! But I would like to have a help document to read. I am confuzed...

hahaha, funny you should mention the speed up button, there is actually a option to speed up time in there, but i havent let that slip yet. Its not quite finished, it only speeds up the AI, so people run around faster, grow and die faster, but it doesnt effect the mana growth rate or day/night cycle(which im thinking of dropping along with the cloud).

And, yeah, i did do a readme, but it got deleted with the outed old version(my bad). Will correct this immediatly.

thanks for the input guys. So many things to remember and so much always forgotten. Please keep them coming.

cheers
crighton

PS.
You are the green guys.
You can only alter terrain with 1 of your guys onscreen(house or wanderer)
Once they make a house, they are pretty much settled in, if you make a big area around them you have to kick them out by altering the terrain under the house.(there is an option for that aswell, but it made it way to easy, But I think i will leave that as an option still).
The win and loose screens are pretty sucky at the moment, and since no one has commented, i can only assume no one has finished a level yet.
You can only cast lightning on evil players, doin it on your own does nothing, but fire is not freindly, so becarefull where you put it.

Sweet. You put graphics by joh, I only did like 10% of the stuff. The stuff that needs fixing too! lol.

Wasnt it autoscrolling before? Felt a lot better that way. I guess the original wasn't like that?

Sun/Moon sphere? I hope I didnt munge that up or something. I was also thinking the pointer (green arrow) could be a tad larger, like it is in the title screen.

The ghosted button thing doesnt work too well. Need to find another way to do it.

Might want to make the text a little brighter.

Lol. They are pretty boring...
Quote: "and since no one has commented, i can only assume no one has finished a level yet."

IT was fun. I just made the fire colums on the enemy houses until there wasn't any left.

I think the user should be able to chose the "level" instead of having to work their way up. It makes much more sence. There should also be a save option(have seperate games), and a pause button.(All you have to do for the pause button is make a loop like:
Do
sync
Loop
)

Joh, what other way would you recomend for the ghosting?
And since you come up with the layout and buttons, i thought you deserved a big credit.

UFO, Yes the plan is too let the user select his level, this is just showing progression working ect....
The idea is to goto a large map and the user can only select an area around where he has been, But there isnt enough maps yet, thats a slow process designing them.

Pause is there, semi done, hit escape and it pauses, but soon it will maybe be the options screen, Hit 'p' to pause and bring up options.

I'm currently in design mode on a few other projects, so i think the final product is going to be a little longer still. Thanks again for the input.

PS. thinking of releasing the source when its finished. My way to help out the community, and say thanks.(and maybe learn some better ways of doin this to begin with.)

This was fun!

May I recommend for the win screen, a giant finger pointing down toward a little dude with his hands stretched out & up (think Link getting an item on Zelda) and a happy look on what would be a crudely drawn face and a little yellow light aura around him.

For the lose screen the same concept except the guy is getting zapped by the finger from the lightning spell. Heh heh.

For the ghosting, try using a plain button but with a transparency effct like the cloud. That way it doesnt look to messy and you can kinda see a bit clearer whats underneath.

That sounds like a good idea, i kinda had a similar idea.
Have a giant hand in some clouds, and have a few of you colored guys jumping up and down cheering. same for loosing except the red guys and a red hand.
