Ok I have done a search about frame rates on the forum. To be honest not much came up. But looking at other posts this looks to be quite a sticking point with people.

I just purchased FPSC on Saturday and sat down with my son to create our first game. All was going well. We had a nice level set up with a cellar, this then lead to another room which went to a hanger then some open space which you could then go to another building wih three levels, not very big. This then went to a lower level where the end of level boss was found. All pretty standard stuff.

The problem starts when we added entities, Germans with guns, boxes etc. I ask my son to fill out the areas to make them look interesting.

When we went to test the game it ran at an amazing 4-5 fps. I did a bit of reading on the help and on the forum. I then went back to the game and took all the entities out every last one. It only ran a 6-7 fps.

I had another idea. I started fresh and did one room 3x3x1. No doors, no entities just the room. Can any one guess what the fps was for that one room. 6-7 fps.

Now I just need a quick answer nothing too technical. I have a Celeron 2.2 GHz, 768Mb Ram, I think its a Nividia Card 128Mb (not sure which one as I'm at work). This is all within the min spec. I have ordered some more RAM, another 2GB. Will this help.

I think more memory always helps & yes as you will find out on the forum among many sticking points is the frame rate issue. You might find making any objects in your scene that your not going to interact with are made STATIC instead of DYNAMIC,might help a little as the game engine does not have to keep checking them constantly, also large outdoor scenes usually end in slow down. All we can do is wait for the first patch to arrive or Riker 9.Hope this helps a little.

Exagger.
Try turning off all the crap that your son is running. This includes,
WoW, WMP, F.E.A.R, MilkShape, And that pesky virus scanner.

Thanks Obbidiah for your response.

Meranvo I don't let the kids install anything on my computer, thankyou for your limited help.

I went back to basics and re-did the whole level. After reading another post on the site about setting up levels, it said about being carefule about where doors are placed as the software will have to render whatever is behind that door. So I repositioned doors so they were not right infront as you enter the rooms. Used many corridors and have a very small courtyard area.

On testing the frame rate was between 9-12. But when the full game was built frame rate was very respectful 30-32. So I'm well happy.

hi i would have to agree with Obbidiah, you might need more ram, or as he has said you need to turn off all other applications first.

If that is a no hoper then try a full uninstall then reinstall, if thats a no go then to really help i would need more info on your system.

I have a alienware area 51 7500, 3.4 p4 (extream)4gb's mem duel baby thingy poo's dog's bits and a crappy celron 2 mhz laptop and it works fine on both.

I think it maybe the poly count (although Im not through testing this yet)

Other users have reported much better frame rates when dropping the polys in the models.

Most 3d programs allow you to change the poly count.

RAM always helps tho....
