I have uploaded an exe of Star Flight 2000 to my website ( www.edzup.co.uk ) the exe still requires the data file tho, but for those who dont own a full DB or own DBPro (as it doesnt compile under DBPro ) it will give you a taster of what im aiming for =).

Ah, yeah, I saw this a while ago. Did you have an earlier version posted up some time ago? Anyway, it's looking good. Responsive and reasonably purty. I love the menu screen, a very nice touch.

What stops you from compiling it under DBP? - Ie. What errors / problems?

"bob n,1000,1000,2000"

This line causes the problem... what is the word "bob" there for? - I cannot find a "bob" function anywhere.

Bob's were used quite extensively in DB1.04 to 1.13 (latest) unfortunately they have been completely missed from DBPro there are loads of other bits missing to this is why a complete recode is needed.

I think a recode would be good . Your code is great, but could clearly use some optimizing, and... well... *darnit*

I can't say 'cause of DBDN legal contract-- all information is top secret...

Well, stick around, and you'll be happy

I remember posts about this way back when, it was really impressive then and it still looks good now. Good luck

Bob = blitter object.

Whereas a sprite is placed upon a transparent matt - bobs store the content of the screen they consume and replace it.

At least I think that's how it works - use sprites they are faster.

Although i've not looked, you might find collision detection works better with bobs because they are masked - or should be.

They were removed from the DB help files well before 1.13 and the commands are only still there for legacy purposes.

A BOB is identical to a sprite. The commands share the exact same syntax and they function in totally the same way. Search and replace on "bob" for "sprite" in any piece of DB code and it'll work in Pro (and DB for that matter).

Cheers,

Rich

lol why did we even have BOB's? So pointless, when it's just another name for sprite
