The sad thing is that a sh?te load of people want to buy my game, but I can't find an engine to complete it in (after the fall of Pie GCS) Maybe this one, if it gets fixed.

Yeah before we realy can sell it we need to have a save and load function.....

without that we can not make 50 level big games because no one is playing 50 levels on 1 day!

(well except from me then)

yeah Thats all im doing, as well as saving up for other programs to help edit and make stuff. My friend is an amazing drawer and actually does advertisement stuff/parties/comics(which are completely pointless but on many occasions funny they are amazingly detailed but still cartoony. So im thinking of making a game like "13" with realistic backround but cartoony people. or vise versa. I wonder if there will ever be any other programs comparable to fpsc in the next 4 years? I hope they make fpsc better soon because even though it's the best thing out there (as far as i've seen) it's still not worthy of making a good quality game. I'm hoping by summer they will have something. Have they made any anouncements yet?

I believe riker9 will boast sales to the public tenfold .

But anyone in the commnity will shrug after a while because EVERYONE will have riker9. The true test of a computer game is if people (who have the same tools as you) like it.

I'm gonna sell some of my games when (and if) they're done
AE

P.S: sure selling them ina retail store is costly because you have to pay the shop money to have your stuff on a shelf?

Your best bet would be to generate a design document and send it to one of the big publishers along with a demo of some sort. I'd advise you to steer clear of EA and Sega though.

A big publisher will earn you more cash (and will earn you a regular wage, a percentage of sales and the opportunity to work on other projects) than doing it all on your own.

Before you send it to anyone seal it in an envelope, bung it in a safety deposit box and get a solicitor to date and witness it by drawing up a legal document. There's a list of publishers here.

Certain big publishers don't want your idea. They only want there ideas! Your game is there game. Forget it unless you know people who know people or your a darn good programmer. Rj

My point was that FPSC at the moment isn't able to create a professional enough game to do Lon's idea justice. However, using FPSC he'll be able to create a playable demo to accompany his design document. It will enable him to work on his game with professional designers, modellers, programmers and testers to create a better product. Which will earn him more cash and, given his skills already displayed, will get him a job as a designer.

His ideas are great, and him selling the game online or in a flea market won't do his ideas justice.

Your Intellectual Property will be their Intellectual Property but you may make a wad of cash, get yourself a great job and see a professional product on the shelves. Totally your choice.

I'm curious to know how much the store takes in profit for selling it for you.

30%?

I read an in-depth article all about this a while back (in Edge) but can't for the life of me find it now - I did however manage to did this up:

Quote: "RETAIL PRICE = £10

VAT @ 17.5% = £1.49

Retailer discount @ 35% = £3.50

Physical costs (duplication, distribution) = £0.40

Hardware licence fee @ 20% = £2.00

Total £7.39, which leaves the publisher with a profit per unit of £2.61"

(Above from http://www.fairplay-campaign.co.uk)

The problem with traditional selling methods (store shelf) is that the money is divided between so many people that in order for most to make a worthwhile profit they need to shift large numbers.

A lot of stores will often make more money off of selling pre-owned titles per unit because it involves less parties.

Digital Downloads are certainly starting to take off and with the continuing success of Steam and now with the likes of XBoxLiveArcade it can only make sense for Developers/Publishers to keep the money to themselves and dispose of a lot of the middle-men.

Personally though I do prefer to physically own a game.

Cheers, Rich.
