Does Riker 9 realy exist?
Release dates have come and gone, no one is reporting on the progress or the delay's.
I believe that Riker 9, was a conspiracy, planted by the government, to test the reactions of this community and to brain wash us into believing there was something better that FPSC.
Actually there is, imho, Qikly game pro, but time will tell.

Aoneweb, I get that you're obviously purposely over-reacting for effect, but nonetheless your information is still wrong. A release date of R9 has never been given or passed, so that doesn't really make any sense.

It will be released this year!

And no idiot of a company makes a "real" release date unless they want to come out with a mediocre product. Deadlines are programmers worst nightmares.

I thought it was said "Riker 9 will be released when 5.9 was out of beta" is that not a release date of sorts?

That was when rumors were going around that the collision and a couple of other things were to be fixed in 5.9, which were not fixed. So develpoment on Riker 9 slowed down and the release was changed to 2006.

Unless of course your programming for a competition, in which case you either have a release date or you don't enter .

Projects that get finished on time tend to be only half-done .

I wonder how many people here remember a alpha-stage test done to check the culling problem?

All those people, including myself, have tested and can assure that work has been done.

I'll be honest with you guys, if I was doing something like this, I would now announce that you could do it yourselves if you have doubts and be out of here.

I'm pretty sure I know everything. Doubts are something rare in me and I am never wrong, as this signature can prove.

Vlad, remeber, these are little kids, they see the words "update" and they say "give me now"... now Aone may have no excuse for this, but that doesn't... aww screw it. Aone, why did you post this? You are obviously with the DBP community so you know the time it takes.

Sorry I started this thread, please children you need to calm down when people ask questions, think about your blood pressure.
Lost in Thought: thanks for the rational explanation, that clears up any doubts I may have had.
I will look forward to R9, when it is ready and released, good luck to all involved.
I will say no more.

You are correct. I stated that BUT as Lost In Thought stated, there was supposed to be things fixed in 5.9 that are still broken (read the Bug Forum), which is why the FPS have issues (with culling limbs). My version is slow on my computer but the people who used the Culling Test program got better results which goes to show that it is not stable. I am still working with a few people (Mike and Lost In Thought) to see if we can get this resolved.

I honestly haven't a clue what your talking about. I have never developed a model pack nor do I entend to development a model pack. I don't have the time to waste making model packs. Also, I have never made a penny off of anything I have created for people.

Lost in Thought, Van B, Merranvo, =ChrisB=:
Thank you for trying to put some sanity to these people.

[EDIT]
You know, I think I figured this out. There is someone named "cbstudios" and people are getting it confused with "Cellbloc Studios". I haven't a clue who "cbstudios" is, but I am quite sure they haven't been around as long as me.

The Riker 9 people should not be pressured. They are a third-party company trying to do something cool for all of us.

The pressure should be on TGC. This is THEIR application.

*Note: The SAVE function should not take this long and everyone needs it to sell their games. Without it, we are dead in the water.

Just my opinion.

Cellblock as he has stated has been around here for a long time and I am sure - at least I hope he will as many of us have learned to let it all go over his head and ignore it.

As far as everyones elses comments are concerned they dont mmatter in the slightest - cellblock will I am sure keep a cool head and pay no attention and release Riker9 if and when he finishes it and if he decides not to then its his decision and quite rightly so.

In the mean time theres no point in anyone asking as cellblock obviously does not have an answer for anyone that he could give even if he wanted too. It will be done when its done as the saying goes.

You might as well ask me when i'm going to finish my game - answer - I have no idea - probably never.

DBP renders all limbs in a DBO mesh regardless whether they can be seen or not, right?

In any mesh if I'm not mistaken, that's exactly the problem with the FPSC engine.

If I understood this correctly, everything is built limb by limb by the engine. So... if most of it are limbs... then... it's an unfortunate question of math regarding what's in the world instead of what's in the camera viewport.

Then, the "main" mesh should be treated as a world in itself at least for rendering purposes, and by doing so, all of its limbs should be treated as "separate" meshes for culling calculation.

I wonder which mesh is the main mesh then... Looking at the way we build levels in the editor, I really have no idea which one is it.

I think that the editor takes all of the segments in the map and builds a single DBO file, that is the "main" one -being the "grouped" segments its limbs. Again, I guess ...

I promised not to comment in a Riker 9 thread again ...
...BUT...
This ain't a Riker 9 thread.
How could I resist?

If this gets locked it would be a good thing, so now Cellbloc you owe me one.

lol

Just kidding, but seriously...

YES, it does exist.
NO, it is not finished yet.
YES, we are waiting.
NO, we don't know when it will be done.
YES, it takes time to get it right.
NO, we shouldn't rush him.
YES, it would be better to offer to help.
NO, we chose to complain instead.
YES, I think I am done here.
NO, I won't comment further.

Yes but I have a culling system working and the system itself is quite fast. Here is the base code. I have added some opitizations and will release them when the DBP bug is fixed.

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=67369&b=6

The problem is that even if you hide every limb of the universe.dbo the code still runs slow and DBP seems to be checking, drawing, and then deleteing the hidden limbs. Instead of just ignoring them.

Bug report here:

Good to know. So, when the bug is fixed, this code should gear R9 version of FPSC's game-engine. Cannot wait. Any news whether the bug has been addressed by TGC?

EDIT: "Set Limb Render Exclusion <objnum>,<limbnum>,<1/0>" being 0 = No (default), and 1 = yes. Or "Set Limb Render Exclusion On <objnum>, <limbnum>" (the same for OFF).

Sorry about that ... I was just thinking on a good name for the command that you were asking for in the bug report thread ...

Edit: there is an EXCLUDE OBJECT ON/OFF ObjectID command. So the command should be something like EXCLUDE LIMB ON/OFF ObjectID, LimbID

Limb culling means it will auto hide and show limbs (the world is just a bunch of limbs) outside the camera's viewing area, once the bug is fixed.
