Hello,

I am a completely new DB user (actually just using the demo right now) with very little programming experience. Anyway, I am working through the tutorials on DBheaven. I am noticing a quirk in the way some of them turn out. I entered in the one to move a circle across the screen using the arrow keys and the one that sets up a bouncing ball with a gravity type system. Anyway, the one where you move the ball, when I hold the key in a certain direction the ball moves but speeds and slows down even becoming jerky. and the one with the bouncing ball, it allows you to change speed and wind force by entering keys. Anyway the ball bounces around okay, but again it slows right down to a crawl. The wierd thing is that if I press a key (ANY key) it seems to kickstart the program and it runs smoothly again for a few seconds then slows down again. As long as I punch any key every few seconds it runs ok. I have tried running them from withing the editor and running them as exe's with the same results....

I am running WinMe on a PIII 450 with 192 Mb ram and 4M ati mobility graphics (laptop). I know this is a weak system for even trying to program games but its what I got for now. Should be ok for simple stuff right?

Anyway, any advice or anyone with the same problem, please answer..

Nhicks

Post your code and we can see whats happening.
It's obviously nothing to do with your computer's specs.

Well, sorry about that... I actually tried it again today and it worked perfectly... sorry if I wasted anyones time. I am not sure what was wrong, maybe a typo.

This time I just copied and pasted the code from the tutorial (I downloaded DarkEdit so I couldnt do that yesterday buy today I can - fantastic add-on), so its safe to say it was a typo.

I am really interested in Darkbasic. I have tried visual basic (not really oriented to making games) and c++ (too steep a learning curve). Like I said, I am only using the trial version and am going to try and write an arkanoid type game, just too see if I can do it before the trial is up, then I will decide to purchase or not. Anyway I am sure I'll be back with many silly questions this month.

You can still copy paste in DB. Highlight, press CTRL + C then open up your editor and press CTRL + V. How do you think we all test code snippet?! We dont ALL use DE! I know I sure dont
