When I build an FPS Creator program and try to run it standalone, it simply freezes on startup with a black screen. I never see a startup screen or anything else. I have tried a couple levels with the same problem. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? I've made sure I have a level and startup screen in the Build Dialog and played with the lighting settings as well.

Are you sure the "Files" folder is in the same folder than the EXE?

Fraps

Record what you are doing, start the instant you load FPSC, so we can find this error and FAQ it once and for all!

Well. I downloaded Fraps, but the frapping thing only records 6 seconds without shelling out $40. I can tell you what I do though. I bring up the build dialog. Set the level to a level and verify the startup screen is the one I want. I then build it. The file is output but it does not run.

Just keep recording, then put it all togethor using the Media Editor that comes with windows.

Unless you can tell everything possible, then it is almost impossible to truely tell the exact error, did you change the media folder? Or delete the previous one? I just don't know unless I see EXACTALLY what you are doing.

I installed the program on my laptop and came up with the following results:

(1) When I copy the same map file to my laptop, it builds and runs fine on the laptop.
(2) You can build and test fine on the desktop, but the programs don't run standalone. Not even if I run a program I built on the laptop version.
(3) I can run the program built on the desktop on other computers, just not on it.

So, in summary, the FPS Creator editor works fine, the test mode works fine, but standalone games do not run on it. Any hints?

Hard to answer that unless we traced every step from the beginning.
I don't know what you have done, so please don't take my advice to be critical.
I simply making a suggestion in an effort to help.

Make sure you use a NEW Game Project Filename in the Project Section of the Game Project Settings Tab of the Build Game Menu.

Man dude, that's a mouthful, but don't blame me, I didn't name 'em.
After hitting Build, the Build Game Menu should open with the Game Project Settings Tab by default.
Look for that NEW button in the top right hand corner.
Once you give a NEW Name to the Game's Project it should restore the build menu defaults.
If you are leaving this set as mygame.fpg then that's probably the problem.
I think I ran into a problem with that on my first builds.

Exactly.
Can you give us a step by step of what you are doing after you click Build?

I figured out the problem. Thanks for bearing with me. I cleared everything to do with both Dark Basic AND FPS Creator and reinstalled and games now run. It is odd that I could create and edit games, but not run them on the system though. It must be a run time DLL that was giving the problem though.
