Hello, I am from a new games channel - http://www.friendlytv.com . We are launching a totally new concept in the UK - SMS driven broadcast games. We have played around with DarkBasic and think its perfect for our needs.

We are after fun games that involves multiple players playing simultaneously on the screen. Players navigate via either a mobile phone - SMS , Java or a PC application. But the fuin bit is that they are controlling a character live on TV!

We provide the simple API for interfacing into the phones and pass you a string ,
http://www.lynxlabs.com/ are a great developer in this space.
You need to imagine a multiplayer game but everyone is on the same screen - around 50 simultaneous. Games can be solo or in teams.
The delay on SMS is around 2 seconds and 200 m/s on a java phone. Games must be in 800x600

We are after games such as

maze games. 4 teams, 10 players, race to get all teams to home base

command and conquer style. Two teams. Must move hardware around and fire

Platform games

Please email me if you are interested with a demo or concept. This is a commercial request and we will be paying authors for accepted applications.

wow! that is truely amazing david, unique concept especially in the UK

Just a few questions:

Will you be a cable/sky channel?
How much will you pay?
When and where are you going to advertise your channel?
Will you want to own the games/media/source code that people send?

to be honest, your best bet would be to contact DarkBASIC Software Ltd to let them know of your request then they can research your company and find out if your genuine (no offence) but we've had con artists on here in the past, I do apologise if you are genuine.

cheers!

If you don't work for it, how do you expect to get it?

Its a SKY channel, pay by cheque , channel will be advertised on our Online sites - see www.gamerweb.com . No we do not need to own source code etc.
Good idea, I'll contact the DB people and explain what we are doing.

Wouldn't some form of intellectual property copyright be required before submitting work?

Of course we all hope this is genuine but simply submitting unprotected work is asking to be ripped off.

Perhaps DB software Ltd could get involved in some way, eg submitted work/concepts can be cc to them as an independant witness?

Again no offense intended but you do hear time and again of individuals being ripped off and it leaves the little guy feeling uneasy when dealing with companies.

if you look for mobile phone/SMS why are you look at DarkBasic why not java-ME becaues DarkBasic not going to work on a phone it do`s work on a pockit pc?

in the cass of DB software Ltd and the retro Competition the we keep the copyright on the game can you say the same thing if we enter you Competition.

Dr OcCult, I think he means that people will send instructions via the mobile/SMS system to control characters etc...

If you don't work for it, how do you expect to get it?

to be honest though I don't really think it would work too well... mobile phone signals are not particular good, what if your controlling a character and your signal dies?

If you don't work for it, how do you expect to get it?

The delay works fine but it is down to game design. Action arcade games will not work, good strategy games will. It is a totally new experience and thus new thinking is required.

Soyuz, in answer to your questions. I am only looking for concepts and examples of previous work to show that you are capable etc. The copyright of all material will remain with you. But if we proceed a full contract will be drawn up protecting both of us.
