as i was currently designing custom characters for my game it occured to me what is the safest poly count for fpsc

does any body know

i mean if you look at the screenshot below you will see that my current model is pretty high poly

Wonderful, but yes, too high poly.

I don't know what the exact figure should be... and with the current culling thing it keeps adding up.

So, the lower the better and make the rest with textures. It's the best thing you can do right now.

Great model, but way too many polys. I'd keep it under 2000. But since you have a high res model, you can make a "normal" map to apply to your lower res model and retain lots of apparent detail. ATI and Nvidia both have normal map creators and I'm pretty sure 3ds max can make them natively, although I'v never done it personally.

ya, 2000 sounds good, although...

take a look at aikos poly count...its unusually high...

I dissagree. i belive it is a mear 1500 pollys.

Your signature has been erased by a mod, because the mod was so jealous of it that he couldnt bare looking at it.

I have a gun model that sais it's 8545 polys in Milkshape and it works alright in FPSC.

I actually get 33 fps.

my gun with hands is about 3500+ polies and it runs ok, but i tend to get a slower freame rate when i press "x" in test game.
