3 Dimensional Chat / Cartoon Shading deform my model badly

Its a simple ~300 poly character, i add cartoon shading with some shade and edge images used in the example of the cartoon shading example, and the model ends all spiky. Any idea why?, also would like to now more of these .dds and as such files, how to work with them in order to have the results i want... thanks so far...
