save 300 bucks and buy Blender, its free and can do all of the stuff you just mentioned

http://blender.org/cms/Home.2.0.html

Some people b*tch about the UI, but hey, you can't beat free, its the next best thing to a professional app.

If you do want to spend money, there arent a whole lot of options for under 300 bucks
cinema4D is 700, a lil over his league, (and i wouldnt suggest buying sofware over ebay)

Older versions of truespace?

If you are a student, then well you can get 3ds max around 300 bucks! that definitly helps

MilkShape3D is a low-poly editor that can create, texture and animate models for a one-time fee of $30.ºº
Unfortunately it doesn't have a built-in UV Mapper, but it does have a "Texture Coordinate Editor" so you can kinda move the wireframe around on the texture; so it's almost UV mapping... o.O

BLENDER. Hands down, it even has a timer that makes my coffee at 7:30 every morning. Not instant stuff either, this is gevalia. Blender is so smooth and fast once you get used to it. It can do ALOT... I am still confused sometimes but just remember that most of the times the more important buttons are bigger . I dont use the buttons tho, thres shortcuts for everything, I dun wanna be a Blender Noob.

Ya blender is teh best (shows off his blender t-shirt). The main thing to remember is that you have to learn the shortcuts, don't use the buttons unless you have to(ex the materials you need the buttons). It has its own uv mapper, you just have to do animation in a seperate program. Buts thats no problem considering its free. Just look at the gallery on www.blender3d.org for an idea of its capabilities.
