I'm sorry for newbing up the boards. I was just curious if anyone could point me at a tutorial or walkthrough for just simply creating a gun if you have all of the models.

Technically, I just want to recolor some of the weapons in the game (autoslug) and change the stats a bit, but I can't figure it out so far. I searched these forums, and learned a bit on the fpe files and such, but as far as graphically recoloring the gun or adding something to it, I'm stumped.

I don't want to do anything beyond that really, except maybe replace the M16 default weapon with an AK47 texture...that's all.

Is there an easy tutorial for doing this? I don't understand the whole .x files and all that jazz. I'm trying to piece it together but my small brain can't figure it out!

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps.

Step1:
Navigate to C:\Program Files\The Game Creators\FPS Creator\Files\gamecore\guns\

Create a folder "myguns"

Step2:
Navigate to C:\Program Files\The Game Creators\FPS Creator\Files\gamecore\guns\scifi

Copy the "autoslug" folder, and paste into "myguns" folder.
Rename "autoslug" to "myslug"

Step3:
Edit the dds files to change the colors.
Edit the gunspec.txt to change the stats.

Step4:
Launch fpsc and load your map. In entity editing mode, right click on your player or character marker to edit its stats. In the General section, click on the "Has Weapon" pulldown. You should see "myguns\myslug" listed. Select it, click apply changes. Player should start with your new weapon.

If you want it to be an item to pickup of the floor, you will need to create an entity for it. Take a look at \Files\entitybank\scifi\items
to see how these work.

Wow, thanks a lot! The only question left is what program do I use to edit the .dds file? I doubt its as easy as editing skins, but let me know! I appreciate the help, man.

Actually sorry!! I figure it out. Editing dds files IS as easy as doing skins, but I guess what I want to know is how do I import a different MODEL in place of an autoslug now. I'm trying to work my way up in skill to get better! Sorry again!

I figured out how to recolor and put decals...all that jazz. Made the gun burp, etc. Now I want to like create a crossbow. I found a crossbow model on turbosquid, but its .gmax extension. Is this much more difficult to do? Thanks again for all your help "anyone who is reading this". People on these forums are definately nicer than on some of the others I've been to.

I will give a little guide for getting a gun from turbosquid.com into FPSC. You need DBconverter for this.

Step 1: Download any free gun from turbosquid.com. Make sure that the gun has a UV layout for it. The gun must be in .3ds format

Step 2: Put the .3ds file into DBconverter. Once it is a .x file, make a new folder in the gamecore/guns/modernday place.

Step 3: Put the .x file and the UV layout into the folder that you just made. Name the UV layout gun_D2. Copy the contents of the folder, commando.

Step 4: When it says do you want to replace the files, say no. Now you are all set.

When you run FPSCreator, the gun might not appear. Edit the gunspec file until you see the gun.
