Give any feedback you like. I'm thinking of making a weapon pack.

EDIT:
Sorry about the bad JPG quality... it really ruins the sword's look.

nice looking sword, a little high poly for most games though, unless its used for rendered scenes?

Tight...thats about all I have to say...and it looks good...lol, maybe you could trim a couple hundred polys though? (of course they may be put to good use, I can't tell, even with the wires)

Sexy. Very sexy. I want to see the concept! If you thought that up, you have a very creative mind! I really like that sword, damn. Nice work. The model is nice but not all that impressive, the texture and creativity of the sword are awesome though. Did you texture it by yourself or use the reference image / art?

Nice, would look great in a game, but a little too many polies, but I guess you could find a way to get away with it

Thanks everyone for your comments!

But there is one thing I must reveal to you... might be a little shocking... or upsetting...

I didn't draw the texture, or think up the design for this sword. I got an image of the sword, made vertexes around it, extruded and shaped from that. I used the reference image to texture it... so this is not one of the swords I drew by myself. Don't worry, but you will see some wicked swords drawn by me in the model pack. This is just a sample, so I decided not to draw for it. Lol, also because I'm lazy and dont have a scanner, so I would have to draw it, take a pic in my digital camera, then load it up. That's an hour process all together... hehe.

Anyways, thanks for all the comments people!

Oh, as for the polies, Reducing it would be a shame... getting rid of all the detail. Hehe, trust me, there is no wasted faces on that sword, all shape and detail.

i didnt figure that you did. Usually people dont put "textured by myself" between two little kirby things unless theres something else theyre hiding. Its nice you told us what you did though.

It looks round because there is way different shading on the flat area near the handle. You need similar shading to the flat area.

yup, different shade of gray also (using that to work out the mapping process), blade tip is not long enough to match the width of the entire blade either...

still much to do, was about 40 mins of work when I posted..

Would really love to see some more swords on this thread...

nice swords guys

Heckno:
there's a post I made in the DB forum, about normal mapping, i made a link to a plugin for THE GIMP that converts an image to a normal map, So you could make a B&W heightmap, then convert it, and look at the effects on a plain/cube/sphere (part of the plugin) rather nice utility.
i'll see if i can't find it...

@Ooga: I used a template of a sword I ripped of the net to get the proportions, supposed to be one handed but I have yet to placed it with any of my human models yet to check... Next task is to put it in with a character and run some animations....

@joel: thanks will take a look right after this quotation....

FYI - I didn't draw the handle texture, just cut and paste some designs from a picture I got off the net...

Yeah so I dont really call that "textured by yourself" its more like "Photo textured" Therse a big difference between painting a texture and slapping a photo on there....

Texturing is applying an image to an object. Drawing, or skinning is making the image by yourself... at least thats what I've heard.

So how many polys would be a good amount for a sword in a game?

Lol, I would say it has enough polies for all the detail it has.

OddMind,
Why won't you guys beleive me? I thought texturing was applying the image, not drawing it. They should just call it 'drawing' and 'texturing'.

EDIT: Oh yah, I'm drawing concepts for the swords
