First of all, how do I post images to this thread? Do I have to find some way to get them hosted? Or can I just upload them to the forum and link to them?

<Edit>
Looks like one of my pictures is listed under the view button, hmm...
well good enough to work with for now, I guess.

Ok so this is the sword that I modeled in Blender with the basic skills i picked up from the "modeling a simple person" tutorials. I'm running into some difficultys in trying to find a way to texture it, based on the tutorials I've found in blender, If I add texture or materials, it affects the whole object! How do I texture just specific parts of an object? (hilt, pommel, crossguard, blade)?

First of all, the way to post images is to register an account with a site like www.photobucket.com (its free) and post your images there, then you can link to them from here using the image tags that it supplies.

It is a nice looking sword, there are two ways to texture it.
The first way is UV mapping. You have to do it this way if you want to use the model in game with a texture. There are many UV mapping tutorials so I won't explain it here.

The second way is simply assigning a material to different parts of the model. To do this, go into edit mode, go to edit buttons, select new under the mat buttons. Then go to materials tab, and choose the material you want from it. Select the faces you want to have that material and click assign. It sounds kinda complicated but it is really quite easy to do.

There is no "way" to do it, if he wants to put them in a download he can. In some cases its better this way because it allows 56kers to load the page much faster, and then optionally select the view option if they wish to look at the image.

Or he could just link to the image if its big instead of using an image tag, which is the same thing. Its just better to use a hosting site so that he can post multiple things without double/triple posting.
