I've been playing with maya, and i was wondering. How would you put a background image on one of the views, so i can use the image as a guide?

I can't figure out how i would do that

something like this:

Its ridiculously difficult in maya, but then, what do you expect for a measly 7000 bucks

As i recall from a maya class I took some time ago, it had something to do with making a plane which had the image on it, but you had to do something tricky with the camera.
As a blenderhead, it seemed like a pretty dumb way to do it compared to blenders method of clicking 'set background image'.

You got 2 ways of doing that ,
The first one is to create a poly plane and on the plane put the image , . you can do it by creating a new material and assign the image to it , then assign the material to the plain . then assign the plane to a layer and set it to refrence
and another way to do it is just go to the view menu in the view ports choose imageplane and import the image , i use the plane settings because when the plane is on a layer it easyer to control it . hope i helped

I second that, however there is a £89 version you can buy which is basically exactly what I've got but doesn't have export restrictions (as mine came free with a mag, not my mag tho...some amazon dudes)

but to add, whatever you try and like best is what you should use
