there is various ways.. depending on what you want.
A.) you can have a flat plain and texture it with a water texture and rotate it to face upwards. (dissadvantage the water seems jagged)
b.) create an object and scroll the texture it gives a good effect (also solves the jagged water problem for DBC users as my game proves )
c.) one of the above + add some splash effects once the character etc.. goes near the water.
d.) there is endless possiblities, but just remember IT IS POSSIBLE TO GET RID OF THE JAGGED WATER IN DBC!

Try it and see ... it's the best way to find anything out. But do make sure you use a 'very thin plane' ... it would be a dreadful mistake if you use a fat one or even a slightly thick one

You can also use an animated object with some waves (dont use a matrix it will kill your fps)

Well...go into the commands list, use the search feature at the top, and search for "scroll" maybe...or perhaps "texture"...see what comes up. The forums are good for support, not RTFM questions.

You've probably figured this out already though... if you've read through the documentation / example programs contained with DBC

E.g.

It moves quite fast...

the scroll object texture command must be used within the main loop

Hmmm, just to kep the conversation going, what about waves? I've seen them used a lot, but whats the best way to make them?

changing matrix height? saw a great example on, i think, the codebase where u click somewhere on the matrix and it makes ring waves going from that point. click different places and they collide and stuff. I thought it was really affective

ok this is just a thought... but if you were to use a memblock to store the texture data of water so to speak and change the values to make it seem like a wave pattern*I seen a great example in the code base I think* This would give a great illustion of a wave effect.

Make Bitmap from Memblock.... it's a tutorial included with Dark Basic Classic...

Check the attatchment.

Place the images on a matrix, animate the texture, ghost the matrix and voila

on making waves, I dont know exactly what you mean (scrolling texture, ripples, etc.) but I did make this interesting program that somewhat simulates swimming in the ocean:

I added the sin of the x position to the sin of the z position and averaged to make it seem like waves... and you can see where you can go from there to make them move.

hope that helps
