Hi all,

We released the first set of DBPro Tutorials onto the site today. You can get them all from here:

http://www.darkbasicpro.com/tutorials.php

They are PDF files so be sure to have Acrobat Reader installed. Lots of topics are covered (see the page for details and screen shots) and range from Beginner to Advanced. We will be adding more over time and using suggestions posted to the forums to base them upon. But if you want to see something specific - email me ([email protected]) and ask for it!

Hope they help.

Cheers,

Rich

They are very well written - the FOV tutorial is especially useful.

The FOV tutorial does highlight a problem with DBP though - there is no CAMERA FOV() expression command - which would be very useful. Can you ask Lee to add it at some point.

This is true - although to be honest you now know the exact default FOV so unless you forget to switch the autocam off - you will always know the FOV because it won't change without you doing so. It could make a useful command though, but not a vital one. I've already asked Lee for it

If anyone has any questions about them then let me know (I wrote them all, bar the dungeon one which I just editted).

Cheers,

Rich

However - the HD Demo does reveal another REALLY annoying DBP flaw.

The lighting is horrible. As in a polygon is barely lit at all one moment then completely lit the next, there is no smooth transition as there shoulds be. Rich - Please ask Lee to take a look at the lighting system as this is spoling the look of my game quite a bit atm.

Very nice to see hard work coming through!
Any chance on getting the mini-map/radar-scope tut?

Page 6/10 on the boxes tutorial lists "top right corner" twice when it mentions the vertex colors... is this correct?

Nope it's a typo (which is kinda obvious if you follow the tutorial to its conclusion).

Cheers,

Rich

Good tutorials. I had no idea you could you could do colour gradients with the box command, that's really cool.

For the filled box ? Its :

BOX x,y,dx,dy,c1,c2,c3,c4

where c1-c4 are the colours.

Yes, I know that. I mean for C1 - C4, which corner does each one represent?

Rob K:

Lighting in DBP is the same as in any other DX game. If you take advantage of lightmaps and know how to light properly than anything is possible.

KingSalami (?!!) - the UV texture scrolling is very sensitive to video cards because we're kinda cheating with the UV values and some cards just really don't like that.

Rich

Heya. Love the tutorials. Got a runtime error from tut 1.
Runtime error 504 - cannot grab image due to an illegal area at line 18

18 get image 1,0,0,800,600,0

using DBPro full version & patch 4.

Overall I must say im impressed with the community and support for DarkBASIC and DBPro. Hope to add to it as I learn more.
