Just got DBPro, jumping with joy that it finally arrived, when suddenly...

"Runtime Error 1506 - Display using 24 bit is not supported by available hardware at line 0"

When I set it to 16 bit, the program runs - amazingly slow. I've got XPHome with a 1ghz processor and 512mb of ram... don't understand why it's doing this. DB1.13 works fine on this system.

When I try moving into the third dimension, DBP complains about "...Display using 32 bit is not supported by available hardware...".

The only options I get in the windows Display Properties are 16 and 24 bit.
Does this mean I need a new video card?
Video cards, by the way, I know nothing about (ex. Do I need one? Do I have one? How do I check? What kinds are there? How much do they cost?).

I'm getting lost and confused... Can ya help me out?
I'm not as think as you confused I am!

Just put "Set Display Mode" in front of your Code.

Your video card is probably an onboard chip of some dreadful sort.

To check, right click My Computer, Go to Hardware, Go to Device Manager. Expand the "Display Adapters" area and tell us what you see.

sorry , this one is faster :
Use Exclusive mode if you want.
( if your graphic card sync is disabled it will then be a bit faster than other modes )

Lol definently time to buy a new one. I suggest a 128mb AGP video card. either Radeon 9000 or GF4 2400 or whatever is two levels below top of the line

You certainly cant run 24-bit mode graphics, although its more to do with DX than anything else...

Good news everyone! I really am THAT good...

you have to ensure you have an AGP slot, my experience with intel gfx controllers is that the board never has an agp slot.

If you buy a GeForce 4 - Make sure you get the Ti4200 or Ti4600 versions - The GeForce 4MX series are not up to much (they lack a lot of cool features which DBP needs).
