I've decided this VS Express is just not worth the agro. I've tried getting MFC into it without much success. I've spent too long messing around with it.

Can someone suggest a version of Visual Studio that works well (VC++ only. Not interested in the other stuff).

All I want to do is create some DLLs, but I want to use CString!

HELP!

That is SO much better! Thanks CR!

Now I can get my Frame-by-Frame avi control DLL done!

what do you need CString for?
i mean it's just a class front for all of the string commands which are actually now depricated.

You'd be better off using safestr.h, and the string functionality within that.
I mean don't get me wrong MFC was useful... but like 5 years ago, now it's very dated. Especially when you have the ability to seemlessly use .NET and Native code together.

I am stoked, I just got my hands on the following:
Visual Studio .NET 2005 Pro
SQL Server 2005 Enterprise
Jan 2006 MSDN Subscription
MSDN For Visual Studio .NET 2005
Server 2003 Enterprise w/SP1

I think im gonna faint...

Heh. I didn't use cstring in the end - it meant including the whole MFC in my dll, which I really didn't want. Did it with vanilla C++ in the end (which I could have done with VS Express, but I prefer using VS6).
My TPC dll can be found in a thread titled 'Extract a frame from an avi - my first TPC' or something.
