Hi,
I've scanned the documentation. Maybe I've overlooked something, but are the games developed with FBSC 16 bit or 32 bit. It seems like they would be 32 bit, but I'm just curious.

Thanks for your time.

Christine

A bit is 1/8 of a byte and 1/2 of a nibble. But, in this sense, it refers to the number of colors available to use (ie 16 colors, 256 colors, 16 bit, 32 bit, 64 bit). At least, that's how I understand it - it may have some other implication. (Like for OS's.)

Changing the connotation of "noob," one post at a time.

The reference is actually to 16 bit or 32 bit code which means everything relating to the op system.

In effect it means your data moves along either 16 data channels or 32 (being faster).

Shortly we will all have the need to embrace 64 bit code and all that means to the users here and FPSC too.

no, a nibble is 1/2 of a byte. 1/2 of a nibble is either the upper nibble, or lower nibble.

But don't concern yourself with terms you don't care about. You may want to know what they are, but you really don't care in the end run.

In this context, it can mean anything.

Dos is 8bit, windows is currently 64bit (yeah, it is technically 32 bit, but it supports 64bit) in this context it refers to something dealing with data. I don't know for certain.

With colors, it is easy, 16bit is 2bytes (65536 colors), and 32 bit is 3 bytes (16777216 colors).

Mosillivo:
Thank you for a clear answer. I didn't want to over-explain my issue without asking some questions first. Here is some background:

I would like to launch my game exe from another application. When I do, I get a black screen. The black screen is the background of my exe's start menu, but the start menu doesn't load.

I've used a variety of different procedures (shell, etc) to try to load the exe, but it still hangs.

Note, the game loads from the desktop, from the command prompt, from everywhere on my computer and even my test machines, but not from my other application (i.e., C#, VB.Net).

Upon researching this issue, I found that M$ documentation stated that if you're attempting to launch an exe that is a 16 bit (developed as a 16 bit app), it will fail or hang. Since I now know that FPSC is (as only makes sense) is 32 bit, then that cannot be the problem.

I will continue to search the forums for relevant information.

Thanks a bunch for taking time to respond.

Christine... that is strange, I can tell you off the bat that the reason you get a black screen is that the game isn't finding the files folder.

Either you moved the exe so now the files folder doesn't exist, or you are sending a path when you call the program.
