OK i just saw some contests and i decided to just make a midevil weapon one,entries allowed:

-Fantasy weapons(midevil RPG style)

I have a game making club at my school. My friend scott told me to enter this.
But I'm lazy. I know it's a bitmap, boo-hoo. Dont flame me. No one's forcing you wait for it to load and stuff.

He is hosting a competition on his site since some of the people on this forum got all up in arms because he wanted to have a contest.
Since he paid to host his own site I guess he can do whatever he likes with it.
Maybe having more than one competition around might improve the quality of output.
It is a proven fact that anyone does a better job when they have to compete.
If I were him I'd host my competition on this forum.
But he was trying to be nice.
Then when he did what was asked of him which was not to host his competition on this forum somebody got upset anyways.
I am encouraging Silver and his contest.I guess if you don't like it you don't have to enter.
Silver,let me know the details.And make sure to tell all of the forums about your contest.
I'm sure there are people that would be interested.

its been proven? Where? Usually a deadline equals a finished product but with less time to work so its not better... just finished.

I think that you can have as many contests as youd like. But no one got upset just don't expect many entries.

I think the first one looks ok but you need some more angles and the second one is not good. You need to weld the verts at the top if anything, give it a texture maybe too. I think it would also look better if you put a thing on the end of the handle much like a baseball bat would have.

When I was speaking of competition I meant if there is a monopoly or only one choice it doesn't put as much pressure on the one provider as when he knows someone out there can provide a similar service or product.I am with you on the deadline thing.Can't stand them.

Thats pretty nice looking, but the texture is kinda bland and there is some stretching. I think also if i was to be really nitpicky that the steel on the weapon would be a bit darker, I have a few eapons made of alloy that are lighter but back then they didnt have the lighter metals. Anywho its a nice weapon and a good shader with a wood handle will really finish it off.

EDIT: I forgot I made this for a real low poly game whoever in the community might have been making. Id give you the download link but i cant find it. Its in the 3d chat forum somewheres...

It's my first attempt at making a weapon.I have a better texture but it won't load into FPSC.Something about it not dividing by 2 or something like that.

Make sure the height and width of the image uses 16,32,64,128,256, or 512 pixels so that it is a power of 2. The images does not have to be square. [Computers being big fans of binary numbers, favor powers of two.]

what the hell are you talking about? the other compo is somehow monopolizing the forums? wtf its not a business its free, and no one is being forced to enter it, im just saying that having 2 compos that are basically the same are stupid, its like you couldent win the main compo so you just start your own, your reasons for having another compo are stupid, you cant stand deadlines? you get like 2weeks for each one so i think its a very lame argument, and yes i wont enter .

Right...First of all, hello peoples, nice wheather we're having, tis a bit mild...

I agree with Dark Coders angle (I'm not saying that because I hold the other compos, however, I agree with both sides of the arguement in moderation) because it would be pointless to encourage multiple contests that are basically the same, if you have an idea to put forth, try and win, the best modellers aren't always the winner, they are pretty fair (even if Conjured Entertainment would say otherwise) By putting more than one contest at a time I say is pointless, as every other forum contest is one at a time on these forums.
I know some will contradict me cos I entered dodic's one, well to be honest I entered that simply because mine was having a cock up at the time and it was a sort of alternative for that one time.

Other the other hand, there is no problem with him/her making the contest on his/her own site, it makes sense however, my advice is consider how you would get participants without spamming, in the beginning of mine I was gonna put it on my forum, however people disagreed because it would have meant less participants

I think you should make a contest like this in the fpsc forums, so that people can have a compo to design weapons to be used in games.

But you're really undermining the point of the other compo which has impressively gone on for months, by starting your own compo and not trying to win that one. I mean, it's sort of like if you're not able to get to a really high level in an mmorpg so you come onto these forums and ask people to build one for you where you get to be an admin.

The point of the other compo is to help improve the communities modeling abilities, but instead you're encouraging people who are entering the other compo to work twice as hard to do yours as well. What do I mean by encouraging? I mean some of the people who often enter that compo are the only modelers that are going to even bother with yours, and that means they'll need to do TWO great models for both compos. And what do people get for winning this one? Are you going to start an entirely new chain of contests?!?! And if you started this because you didn't think you had a chance in the other one, what makes you think great modelers will all ignore yours?

I’m just saying, what if during the tgcs next compo a forum member started their own compo with the same theme because they didn’t think they could win that one?

So make a similar contest to this on a different board, where it will serve a better purpose, wont be flamed, and may actually stick around.

and I agree with Bizar, this contest would best suit the FPSC boards, theres a lack of contests over there, I would get in before anyone uses the idea first

heres mine, ive made it in 3ds max8, but ive only just started learning it, so somtimes the simplest of tasks is confusing at the minute :S

and theres a video animation at the bottom, please look at that aswell, its litrally only a second long, and a laughable 157kb but you need to loop it.

ultimately you must do what you feel is right...

On the flip side, Sep does have a cult following of people to his compo so don't be offended if they verbally assult your boards or if you get a less than stellar crowd to your own should you attempt to distract...

I have often thought of starting a compo but with real prizes, and may still do it in the future however at this time I will not do anything to jepodize my favor for Sep because of the contributions he has made to this community. In the end all he and the others are asking is that you respect the community and not to distract from what is already....

To be honest, I myself don't have a problem with other contests around, but I believe it is pointless having them in the same section lol...

To be honest if there was a contest that worked well and has prizes I would withdraw my own, however, if you were willing to give prizes, there could be the odd one we could give prizes, heck once I get back into serious modelling I could offer media prizes and whatever you have to give, and if I start selling my material, the prizes could be that. But at the moment it is an idea.

However, please don't be discouraged by any flaming, because its normal for this forum, and a lot of largely populated forums
