My game, (Project Daedalus) is going to be sci-fi, but I want to know, which has been done more, a dark, brooding sci-fi atmosphere or a futuristic, epic sci-fi atmosphere?

Futuristic, epic sci-fi defenitly! There are alost no games with that kind of atmosphere.
