Yes I remember that somebody made a Matrix level editor for Dark Basic Classic and claimed that matrixes could even be made into balls/spheres, does anyone know who that was as I wish to have cyberplanets in my games

its is impossible to have matrix spheres, atleast perfect ones, if you want planets just make a nice geosphere with lots of sides and position your player according to the surface.

I don't need too perfect a sphere, but I do want a sphere, and how would I do all that dark coder? I know how to make the player or players vehicle move according to the matrixes bumps e.t.c but I still have no idea of how to do get it to run on the suface of a sphere model in DBC

it depends a lot on what you've got in mind, if you're character is just a man, the fact is you're not going to be able to see the whole of the world. you'd be better changing the matrix's data depending on where in the world your guy is. You could do this by having a massive data array, and updating the matrix based on where the player is on that array

@Manic Well I want the player to be able to drive vehicles and walk about on a planet with gravity where the player, & a.i pilots and drivers can wlak about ,pick up or drop things and the gravity will make sure that things work OK, yet the player can fly about the planet or even fly to another planet in a spaceplane

Thanks Jerbil, I am already in touch with the maker of Planetbuilder

well, you'd only need to worry about being able to see the whole planet as you were leaving the atmosphere. so i'd use a matrix while you're on the planet, and then when you get to a certain height in your spaceship, swap the matrix for a planet model

How do you do that Manic and make sure that it is shown as a planet from afar right up to near?

if you are after something on the scale of spore, then use spheres as the planets are rather small, if you want to have the whole of earth to 1to1 scale and lots of driveable vehicles and a space ship that can visit other planets and different solar systems and maybe have blackholes sucking in nearby stars and showing all the light getting sucked in, aswell as alien planets and lots of wormholes and supernovas, then shoot yourself.

@dark coder: lol!

if i was going to do this, the method i'd have for changing between a sphere, to the matrix landscape, would be to fly through some clouds... while you're in them, you've got little visability, then swap the matrix and sphere over, no one notices the difference

I'm not going to go into too much detail about posible ways of doing this, but you could use a greyscale heightmap to store your landscape data, and then plot your player's position on the planet's surface with reference to the bitmap, then look at the pixels around you, and use the pixel's values to create your landscapes height.

but remember what darkcoder says here... if you're planning an entire planet... and then alien planets too... think again, it aint gonna happen

@dark coder lol no I don't need to put the whole universe in a game ( yet) just a few planets you can fly to the rest could be put in a backdrop if I use DBC the spaceship could visit a few nearby planets
and the drivable vehicles could be configured on the dropship and simply loaded when put on the planet.

I have heard that this was done some yearsago somebody made a robtic game with a small sphere and you fought as a robot with other robots , it was made with DBC but I have no idea of the titie so I know it can be done with models but I have no idea how you can get a vehicle or player to run across the surface of a sphere, I remember also a level editor website saying you could assemble matrixes and make a sphere out of them but I am not sure which on it is

Would you be able to fly the planets around and smash them into each other, and listen to the little people on the planets scream for mercy, but no, you must smash them into the other world....that would be cool.

well making planets isnt the problem, texturing them very well might be as you will allways end up with seams or streatching at the polars, getting the ground height of somewhere on a plnet is easy as you can just use intersect object or use sparkys dll for that and cast a ray from the camera/player position to the center/planets positon then the height of the terrain your under will be that.

deforming the planets in realtime gets a little trickier as you would not only have to find the vert that your working on but youll have to move it up/down using some sin/cos so it comes out in relation to its position on the planet, adding vehicles to a planet isnt so hard as you can use the above method of intersect object to find the height, to get things to drive across the planet gets slightly harder and making them move to designates points gets a bit harder,

having multiple planets gets alot harder as you would have to calculate alot, so if your capable of doing all of that then youll have no problems .

intersect object? and I can still use the get ground hieght command with htat can I dark coder, still I would need to be shown it, can I email you the code I have so far? I will include the media I have and this intersect object is this in DBC I think it might be in DBP but I haven't seen it in DBC

@ poke a fish, yes imagine being able to raise mountians and create valleys and make sea, imagine you could float above them or go in under the water , imagine creating your own heaven and your own throne and your angels seated around you, you could be a kind god or you could be a cruel god and create a Hell to burn those forever who don't worship you ,imagine your Black Angels you can send to destroy whole civiliisations if you wanted , imagine a game where gods could fight each other and chuck universes, planets, asteroids, and other wierd weaponms at each other.

Walk on a planet and be a terrifying creation with lighting and thunder coming from your avatar, watch as whole creations you created bow down to you in fear, even get virtual human females and do some sexy things with them ( or males if your that way inclined)

Say you go to school and you have some bullies always at you well imagine being able to kill and torture their virtual replica's again and and again make their life hell from cradle to grave, and yes imagine you could crash planets into a civilisation for fun just to watch them die in terror, that is my vision for Cybergods, You would even be able to trade with other Gods and civilisations. peacefully if you wish

that sounds like a very interesting game, will take a lot of time to make something like that though, but it would totally be worth it. If you got the physics right with smashing things together and such that would make it fun right there.

Yes I have to see if the same instructions will work with a.i. pilots and people and vehicles but I can say I had some very good news I have managed to get someone to help me a lot with getting vehicles to drive on spheres

Progress on that I take on board what you said Dark Coder what I really would need now is a level editor that can allow me to manipulate and deform in my way the objects you can create in DBC and DBP namely the sphere object you could then put your buildings vehicles , people and other objects including your avatar on the sphere I can get models and I ven have some code but it is now making a level editor that can do those things and I am still learning DBC really
