When you draw three vertices in blender to make one triangle, and then you want to add one more point to make a second triangle how to you connect the second (new point) and one of the points from the original triangle. You can draw from one point to the new point fine but when you try to go from the new point to and old point it doesnt connect and draws a new one instead. What gives?

Just select the two you want to connect and press F. The same goes for creating faces.

also, if you want to merge vertices, select both of the vertices, press 'w' and select "merge". Click on the top option of the merging buttons, and wala! Merged vertices.
hope that helped.
