I've been working on a lot of gun models with my friends in our CG class with 3ds Max for a FPS style game. The poly count for each weapon is generally descent compared to their detail. I know some of them can have improvements in some areas but I'm putting them into a bundle pack and selling them. Tell me what you think of them. I'll be posting the pack on [href]TurboSquid.com[/href] sometime this week.

All Weapons in Pack

Better PICs

Thats the HK UMP textured

*I'll load some more pictures in a sec.

And its wireframe with only 810 Polys

Baretta with only 1000 Polys

My render script is messed up with 3ds Max so I'm using a normal shader and normal texture rendering. I sent an email to them and they said they will send me a copy of the script. When I get the script I'll change the pictures and then I'll post it on Turbo so it has a better presentation.

I'll send you the HK UMP since I modeled that one awhile ago, and so I can see how it looks with the render. Check your email shortly...

*I know what clay rendering is but what did you mean when you said, "how did you texture them like that?"

We where thinking about them being used in a third person shooter but we wanted speed instead of poly detail. Thats why the skin is really detailed and the poly so low. We ran a 3,000 poly Desert Eagle on a Area 51 M and we had 120 (FPS). We ran a 1000 poly Desert Eagle and we had around 230 (FPS).

like in ut? some servers take a total age to just connect to, and once you have the map has changed and its aloter 20meg d/l.

and some q`s, are any other weapons textured? any possible individual renders? and why do you need a script to render them? usually hitting f9 will render them with default lights and aa, doing a clay render takes a little bit more effort.

looks like a good set of cannons, are they textured, and can we see the picture at the top, but massive, so we can actually see the models properly.

good luck with selling them, i'm thinking of making a character model pack soon

I don't have a sig, live with it.

I'll work on getting the screens today.
All the models are textured.

& Dark Coder - 3DS Max uses scripts to tell the computer how to manipulate the model to make a render. Its in one of the subroutine folders. For some reason my file is corrupted. 3DS Max said it happens sometimes when you upgrade so they are sending me another.

Thanks ALPHA ZERO

I've been looking at different weapon packs that we all can buy and their prices are outrageous. They're trying to sell three low-poly models with a crappy non-realistic texture for $150.00 bucks. I'm sorry but you'd have to be stupid to buy something made so poorly for such a high price. How much do you guys/girls think is a reasonable price to sell these models for?

which 3dsmax are you reffering to? im pretty sure none of them require you to manually make scripts just to render them.

and the textures look nice, any chance of some reduced pics of the uv maps/skins? or say the texture sizes that they are using, how many texture maps etc etc.

&Dark Coder - I upgraded 3DS Max 7 to 3DS Max 8 because my CG class required it. I didn't program the scripts, they where corrupted during the update. I believe all the models have uv maps. I'll check it over with friends to make sure I get all the uv maps if I don't have them. The body skins range from 500x500x to 1000x500x. The attachment skins range from 300x500x to 500x500x. My friends and I decided not to post the skins because we don't want them ripped. I'll see if they will allow a reduced size but they where really firm on that.

well to be honest i dont believe for one second that youve modelled/textured any of them, if infact you were in a 3ds max class and had max7/8 you would know that to render you dont need to fill in any sheets or scripts or forms, you just press one button to get a default render,

how could you possibly know that your models may not have uv maps? it takes like 2 clicks to find out, and is it any coincedence that all of your models are like skin/mesh replacements for cs/css models sure i may not be able to find the exact one but being a css player i know of a few sites that have archives full of models,

and these models cant easily be extracted from mdl using max, however using something like Milkshape its very easily done, and loe and behold all of your screenshots are obviously in ms3d, you can even see the default blue bg present in your 1st pic even though its poorely edited out to look like max, you seem to have missed some parts?

the fact that the models use multiple skins like you said further prooves that its not yours as almost all hl2 models have multiple skins.

I can't believe someone would even say something like this. Yes, I'm in a CG class and yes these are not just my models. Some of them are made from my friends: Chris, Blake and Anthony. The models I made do have UV maps because I made them. They are easy to make. I don't know if my friends made UV maps for all the guns because I didn’t make them. NO I DIDN'T PROGRAM ANY SCRIPTS FOR THE THIRD TIME. I get an error message saying that there are no caustics generators in the scene and the program has to terminate. I don’t know what that meant so I emailed 3DS Max and they said it was an update problem. We used pelt mapping to skin all the weapons. Some of the weapons have two skins because of the attachments. We think it would be easier to add/change a different scope, laser pointer, whatever, if it had a different skin. Sorry if its not up to YOUR standards but that’s how we did it. And no its not milkshake or whatever that is, it's a 3d model viewer you get with darkbasic. I copied the picture to a .bmp and changed the background so you can see the model better. These aren’t the best made models, I know that but don’t blame us for trying and saying we did something we didn’t do. As a fellow programmer/modeler I wouldn’t of expected that and I think many other people would agree.

well yhe guns look good and someone with such little knowlede such as unticking the generate caustics in the renderer settings and how is that a max problem? thats a user error, and your telling me 4 people in a 3ds max class cant figure that one out? why the hell would you use pelt mapping to unwrap guns? thats like the more useless thing ever unless you want to map them like baloons.

and the only reason i accused you is because your story sounds so unbelievable, and because ive seen this thing being done before.

Yea, I thought the rendering was an error on my part also. I sent them the error report it gave me. I opened the file up but it was just a bunch of numbers. Where doing the texture course right now. It's mostly enviromental/vehicle effects. Texturing mapping is later on in course 1016c and we don't start that until summer. I guess I can see where your coming from. I just don't like the fact that people would think we stole the models when we worked so long on them. Sorry if I singled you out.
