HEY Good news ppl

I was in a dilema ya see, I was using Patch 4.3 BETA to Compile a project of mine and some bits worked and others didn't. So I tried to Compile it with 3.1, and the bits that didn't work worked, but the bits that work didn't! Kinda like 50% of my code wanted to run in Patch 4.3 and the other 50% wanted 3.1

Anyway I was starting to imagine having to completely re-write the whole thing in Patch 4, wasting loads of time. I was prepared to do this cos I'd seen the amazing speed increase in Patch 4.3 but I wasn't looking 4ward to it As some of you will remember my code was accessing the verticies of *.x files and I thought the problem wouldn't be fixed, what with the new DBO format and all...

Anyway just downloaded the full Patch 4, and miraculously, my code 100% works in it! I totally wasn't expecting that transparancies now work for me, polygonal collisions work too and my goodness me its all very spiffing.

I have read of people having problems with Patch 4, but I for one am finding it very, very impressive. My Glasses are raised to Lee, Mike and all at DBS and DBDN for making this possible. I should go out and get drunk to celebrate, but it seems I'm already a little rat-arsed

Nice 1 ppl. This is the thing I was waiting for.

(now just fix a few lil bugs and the sprite thing in P5 and I shall truly do something stupid. Not quite sure what yet, I'll start thinking... )

Yes - unfortunately aside from other peoples programming errors, I do think it still has trouble with some graphic cards.

I still haven't got dbpro to match the speed of db v1.9 in any project with a lot of objects on the screen. It's been very frustrating. Patch 4 hasn't improved anything on my project except some bugs with ghosted and transparent objects. I went back to patch 3 to complete my current project. It's strange that it can improve speed dramatically in only specific types of programs but hurts performance in others.

I think there are some major compatibility issues with patch 4, perhaps to do with the graphics card or processor type. I'd be interested to know what everyone's using and how well patch 4 improves anything or doesn't.

That's great to hear of your successes Kangaroo2!

The performance thing is weird. My first reaction was, "Where's the beef?", I mean "Where's the performance?". But, I've been focusing on (obsessed with?) the blantant issue I'm having, and I don't have any substantial project to really tell how 3.1 and 4 compare in terms of performance. My Retro entry is very simple... not many objects, etc.

If you guys need me to run a test for you on my Radeon 8500 / AMD 900 for comparisons, please let me know...

I only had a minor speed improvement. About 2-5 fps. Was really dissapointed. And a lot of functions in my game didn't work anymore. And I have a Nvidia chipset, so my vidcard shouldn't be the problem. On my other systems it work fine though. But no (or little) speed increase there aswell.
