BSP levels are now slower than before. Where is the promised speed boost?

Some imported levels from Quake dropped from 14 to 12 fps. I'm a bit disappointed.

"Where is the promised speed boost?"

This applies only to games with lots of objects on screen, ie 100+ - they will see a very noticeable speed boost: allow me to demonstrate using some high-tech visuals:

PATCH 3.1
_________

S '-
P '.-
E '..-
E '...-
D '....-
..'.....-
...No. of Objects

Patch 4
_________

S '------
P '......-------
E '..
E '...
D '....
..'.....
...No. of Objects

Hence a BSP with just a camera on screen will not see a speed boost, and in fact there will be a slight decrease in speed.

Your computer is VERY slow if you can only get 12FPS under patch 4 on a BSP, even my slowest (P450 / RivaTNT) PC gets 30FPS on various BSPs.

12 fps is for the largest levels, smaller ones have 100+ fps (I also do not understand why bigger levels are slower because objects not visible should not be calculated at all).

Maybe Patch 4 does not increase the speed for plain BSPs but why does it make them slower?

There is apparently some more general overhead in P4 which produces a slight FPS hit.

Thomas

Apparently world commands will have their day in patch 5 so maybe something will come up then.
