Would (or is) it possible to have a semi-transparent segment? I realise that windows only work because they're entities, but is it possible to apply a transmap to a segment?

If you take a texture and make it semi or totally transparent and then use a program like sings II or Magic FPS to make your segment that should give you what you need.
I haven't tried it though so feel free to get mad at me if it doesn't.

Yes it's possible. Some of the SciFi platform segments use transmaps to create an open grid effect.
